We took the Caravan Safari. It is one of several available. It was a two hour open truck tour through the open wildlife areas of the park - inaccessible to the public. The safaris are an additional cost - not included in the entrance fee. The truck drove slowly and stopped frequently when we were near various groups and herds. Tour guides and drivers are involved in the daily animal observations and know many of the animals by name. We fed two giraffes, "Bratty Teenagers" according to our guide. He said if we fed them correctly we would not get the tongue. They were over eager for the leaves we were feeding them - one giraffe on each side of you and they want the leaf in your opposite hand = we did get "Kissed" by those long, slimy tongues reaching across our arms and faces. We saw several babies, so cute. It was great to see the animals moving freely in large acreage enclosures and the species interacting as they would in the wild. After the safari we walked a few of the several loops - miles and miles of trail loops. Great experience.

We were on a mini vacation and toured all three parks in San Diego. Sea World, The Zoo , and Safari Park. Let me say the Safari Park was absolutely awesome. We had never been there, and were very pleased with the openness of it. It is seriously not advertised enough. If you love animals like we do, it is a must.

My trip here with family was great! A little pricey but once you see the habitats for the animals and their freedoms it makes sense. I would suggest going early when they open to beat the crowds.
