Wanted to do a guided tour but there weren't enough people so decided to just take the bike myself and so glad I did. Ended up cycling about 16 miles to Sausalito and back. Cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge felt awesome - very proud of that one! If you're cycling solo there are some isolated sections on the other side of the bridge, possibly very quiet due to the time of year (Feb) and when the map says 'cycle friendly route under the bridge' it's lies!!! You have to carry your bike up and down a steep flight of stairs - I'm pretty fit and found it tough. 'Comfort bike' was just right, I did almost 5 hours and minimal saddle-sore. I didn't find it clear enough that you'd need a credit card for the deposit and that if you're paying a cash deposit taking the $5 insurance is then not optional, even though they had already increased the deposit from $75 to $100 because it was cash.

Easy to book online at discounted rates. Efficient check in service with friendly staff - we had our safety briefing, collected our bikes/helmets and ferry tickets and we were on our way quickly. A relatively easy ride to the bridge, we were given the wrong instructions about which side of the bridge to bike on, but it was a public holiday and maybe it was different that day to other weekdays, and that was easily resolved. Once we crossed the bridge we wished we had taken some photos from the lookout on the other side of the road but unfortunately didn't take the opportunity before heading off to Sausalito. Some up and down hill rides on the way to Sausalito, our teens coped with it fine but younger children may struggle. At Sausalito we secured our bikes, grabbed some lunch and caught a bus (prebooked seats) to the Californian Redwood Forest at Muir Woods which was amazing - the buses only run weekends and public holidays during winter but they are such good value and kids ride free (but you must prebook a seat). Then we enjoyed a beautiful sunset ferry ride back to San Francisco. We were a little late arriving back but we called the depot for an after hours drop off code and they ended up still being open when we arrived anyway. We had glorious weather and this is a day we will all remember. Highly recommended!

We rented our bikes in Powell St, I took my daughter with me and they have several options for children. They explained everything, it was easy to understand specially English being my second language. They took care of all the details, even provide ferry tickets. Blazing saddles personnel go above and beyond for their clients. Specially Mr. Angel Garcia, who took care of our personal belongings that we couldn't take with us and carried it all the way to another of their stations to be able to meet with us. There are many bike rentals companies in SF but I wouldn't recommend any other but Blazing Saddles.
