We more or less blundered into this museum because we had an hour to kill, and ended up spending about two and a half hours there - could have been longer but we ran out of time. A very imaginatively presented museum, which gave an excellent overview of American authors, many of which I had not heard of previously. Particularly good is the initial section, which gives a short intro to 100 interesting writers. We were lucky enough to catch the "Bob Dylan" exhibition, which was on during our visit, and which was really interesting. Don't miss Dylan's speech to the Nobel Institute.

I spent some good 2.5 hours in this place and possibly I could spend even more time if my schedule would allow. If you are interested in writing as a reader and/or writer, it’s worth paying a visit. Apart from the permanent exhibits, currently there is an exhibition dedicated to Bob Dylan which I found very interesting and informative. The museum is in the heart of the city which makes visiting even easier.

I was meeting someone for lunch at the Art Institute and looking for a diversion for an hour, and saw the sign for the museum. I've been reading a lot from American book lists so my attention was drawn, and I was not at all disappointed. It's a small museum but very interactive, and I could have spent a couple more hours without getting bored. Highly recommend as something different you may not have thought of when planning a Chicago trip.
