Alaska Sled Dogs & Musher's Camp
Your journey begins with an entertaining historic tour from your knowledgeable guide through downtown Skagway and along nine miles of stunning coastline to our Musher’s Camp™ in Dyea. Next, hop into our specialized unimog for an exciting ride up our rugged mountain road, surrounded by glacially fed streams and waterfalls. At the top, your musher will greet you with a custom-designed wheeled summertime sled and a team of very excited Alaskan Huskies! Feel the power of these strong dogs as they whisk you down a mile-long, zig-zagging trail deep in the Tongass National Rainforest! After meeting your dog team, climb back into your unimog and enjoy the adventurous ride to a breathtaking overlook of the Dyea tidal flats. Depending on the month you just might see eagles, bears, seals, horseback riders, wild flowers, and of course snow-capped mountains. Your unimog will then bring you to what we like to call a “Kennel Talk.” We have been sharing our passion for dog sledding for years, and in that time we have gathered up the most frequently ask questions about the sport. In the Kennel Talk, we will share the fascinating answers and welcome any additional questions you may have. Of course, we make sure you have plenty of time to play with our puppies! Your affections actually socialize these future athletes, which is essential to their racing success. A crackling fire and a unique gift shop round out your visit. All of this in a spectacular Alaskan setting!

Was pleasantly surprised by this fun and educational experience. Our ride to the camp was entertaining and our guide was knowledgeable. The Unimog ride was an experience in itself. Our dog musher’s enthusiasm for his sport was contagious. We learned so much. We discovered that these dogs love their job pulling the sled and they were barking because they were so excited waiting for their turn. The puppies at the end of this excursion were the icing on the cake. Love that this crew is helping to keep this sport alive. It is amazing!

Booked this through Viator instead of booking the more expensive version through the cruise ship. Tour guides were great! Loved the experience, highly recommend this if you are interested in how these dogs are trained and if you love holding puppies.

My family and I just got back from an Alaskan cruise and the highlight of the vacation was defiantly the sled dog musher camp excursion in Skagway, Alaska. My family and I where picked up from the port in Skagway by our guide Keith. Keith greeted us warmly and told us to get ready for “the best part of our trip” and he wasn’t lying. He lead us to the bus, allowed us to board a little early and gave our group a really engaging history lesson about Skagway on our beautiful 30 minute drive to camp. At camp we learned about the camp and he told us about the training process the dogs go through. After that we got the opportunity to ride on a sled with the dogs and pet the puppies. Every minute of the this excursion was magical and I would highly recommend it to anyone that is looking for a family friendly or solo easy going adventure that is great for anyone’s abilities. If you have the chance to go I would highly recommend you to request Keith as a guide! He seems to truly enjoy what he does and in turn made our experience even better.
