Alaska Sled Dogs & Musher's Camp
Your journey begins with an entertaining historic tour from your knowledgeable guide through downtown Skagway and along nine miles of stunning coastline to our Musher’s Camp™ in Dyea. Next, hop into our specialized unimog for an exciting ride up our rugged mountain road, surrounded by glacially fed streams and waterfalls. At the top, your musher will greet you with a custom-designed wheeled summertime sled and a team of very excited Alaskan Huskies! Feel the power of these strong dogs as they whisk you down a mile-long, zig-zagging trail deep in the Tongass National Rainforest! After meeting your dog team, climb back into your unimog and enjoy the adventurous ride to a breathtaking overlook of the Dyea tidal flats. Depending on the month you just might see eagles, bears, seals, horseback riders, wild flowers, and of course snow-capped mountains. Your unimog will then bring you to what we like to call a “Kennel Talk.” We have been sharing our passion for dog sledding for years, and in that time we have gathered up the most frequently ask questions about the sport. In the Kennel Talk, we will share the fascinating answers and welcome any additional questions you may have. Of course, we make sure you have plenty of time to play with our puppies! Your affections actually socialize these future athletes, which is essential to their racing success. A crackling fire and a unique gift shop round out your visit. All of this in a spectacular Alaskan setting!

I can't say enough good things about this excursion. We booked through the NCL Bliss cruise ship and were picked up by Garett, who was AWESOME. He gave us some history of Skagway on the way to the mushers camp. Once there we rode up to the camp in a Unimog which my husband loved! Then we had the privilege of being pulled on a sled by Musher Miriam and her wonderful dogs. She was amazing and stopped along the way to take pictures for us and at the end we were able to pet all of her dogs. Once the sled ride was over we learned all about the Iditarod race and mushing sled dogs. Then we got to love on some puppies. They ranged from months old to weeks old and was the highlight of the trip. The staff were all wonderful and we purchased pictures taken by their photographer but it was voluntary and there was definately no pressure. The pictures were amazing because they caught me in the moment and I wasn't posing, just having a wonderful time. This was the best excursion we have ever done and if you are a dog lover, I encourage you to not miss this one!!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed out visit to the summer musher's camp. We were picked up at the dock by Garrett our very funny driver. He gave us a narrated tour through downtown Skagway (don't blink or you will miss it) and out through the countryside to Dyea where the camp is located high in the mountains. From the base camp we traveled by unimog up to the camp. We could hear how excited the dogs were to see us and to start running. Many of the dogs had just completed their winter season running the Iditarod and various other races. We were encouraged to interact with the dogs because most of them love people. They were all so excited to start pulling the vehicle around on the trail through the forest. They are bred to run and love it! After our visit and ride with the sled dogs we came back down to base camp and were treated to a short talk with a musher about the races and the dogs. Then we were led to an area with several puppies about 5 months old and others that were only about 5 weeks old. We were able to hold and play with all of these puppies. At the base camp there is a gift shop and food available. The workers take pictures of everyone during the sled ride and playing with the puppies which are available for sale but there is absolutely no pressure to buy them. I highly recommend this adventure. It was the highlight of our recent trip to Alaska.

Booked this excursion through trip advisor instead through our cruise ship Princess. Not only did we save $30 but there were only 5 people in our tour group. Both early Princess groups had 40 people. We got Garrett as our driver who was fantastic. Gave us lots of good information in an almost empty bus. At the mushers camp the staff was excellent. Our group of 5 got puppies all to our selves. A nice short briefing without the large group fiasco. I have to say everyone we met was fantastic and love what they do. No pressure sales for photos they take of you during your tour...nothing. Just complete professionalism. Great job guys!!!
