Alaska Sled Dogs & Musher's Camp
Your journey begins with an entertaining historic tour from your knowledgeable guide through downtown Skagway and along nine miles of stunning coastline to our Musher’s Camp™ in Dyea. Next, hop into our specialized unimog for an exciting ride up our rugged mountain road, surrounded by glacially fed streams and waterfalls. At the top, your musher will greet you with a custom-designed wheeled summertime sled and a team of very excited Alaskan Huskies! Feel the power of these strong dogs as they whisk you down a mile-long, zig-zagging trail deep in the Tongass National Rainforest! After meeting your dog team, climb back into your unimog and enjoy the adventurous ride to a breathtaking overlook of the Dyea tidal flats. Depending on the month you just might see eagles, bears, seals, horseback riders, wild flowers, and of course snow-capped mountains. Your unimog will then bring you to what we like to call a “Kennel Talk.” We have been sharing our passion for dog sledding for years, and in that time we have gathered up the most frequently ask questions about the sport. In the Kennel Talk, we will share the fascinating answers and welcome any additional questions you may have. Of course, we make sure you have plenty of time to play with our puppies! Your affections actually socialize these future athletes, which is essential to their racing success. A crackling fire and a unique gift shop round out your visit. All of this in a spectacular Alaskan setting!

This excursion was very exciting and fun. Our tour guide Garret was a so knowledgeable and fun. We got a tour through the town with many pieces of information. The views were amazing. The mushing dogs were sweet and friendly, many jumping all fours I to the air. The lecture at the camp was truly informative. And the icing on the cake was cuddling with sled dog puppies we loved being outdoors in nature. Young and old will love this tour. We met while stationed in Alaska with the US Air Force and we returned four our aniversary, ba c.v k ro where it all began. From start to finish, sooo exciting. Thank you Garret and crew.

Our family chose this for the one excursion we would go on together while on our cruise. Our group included a 1 year old, 8 year old, and 6 adults (ages about 25, 27, 32, 60 and 66). Everyone had a great time. The excursion included a entertaining and interesting narrated ride up to the sled dogs. We learned about the history of the area and dog sledding, saw some awesome views, and visited a cool gift shop where we later purchased pictures of our experience (including puppies). At the destination we went on a ride on the training dog sled driven by a musher and her dogs; she told us her plans to ride in the Iditarod race, what it is like to raise and train sled dogs, and the names and personalities of all her dogs pulling us. When we stopped she introduced us to all her dogs and let us pet them and take pictures with them. Next we heard from one of the other mushers about his experience running the Iditarod. I knew it was a challenging experience but had no idea about just how dangerous the race is. And then, we got to meet and snuggle with lots of puppies! The ride back to our ship was also entertaining. Our guide did a great job of entertaining us while talking about the history of the area. I would definitely do this again.
