Alaska Sled Dogs & Musher's Camp
Your journey begins with an entertaining historic tour from your knowledgeable guide through downtown Skagway and along nine miles of stunning coastline to our Musher’s Camp™ in Dyea. Next, hop into our specialized unimog for an exciting ride up our rugged mountain road, surrounded by glacially fed streams and waterfalls. At the top, your musher will greet you with a custom-designed wheeled summertime sled and a team of very excited Alaskan Huskies! Feel the power of these strong dogs as they whisk you down a mile-long, zig-zagging trail deep in the Tongass National Rainforest! After meeting your dog team, climb back into your unimog and enjoy the adventurous ride to a breathtaking overlook of the Dyea tidal flats. Depending on the month you just might see eagles, bears, seals, horseback riders, wild flowers, and of course snow-capped mountains. Your unimog will then bring you to what we like to call a “Kennel Talk.” We have been sharing our passion for dog sledding for years, and in that time we have gathered up the most frequently ask questions about the sport. In the Kennel Talk, we will share the fascinating answers and welcome any additional questions you may have. Of course, we make sure you have plenty of time to play with our puppies! Your affections actually socialize these future athletes, which is essential to their racing success. A crackling fire and a unique gift shop round out your visit. All of this in a spectacular Alaskan setting!

Amazing views while driving to the camp and we took some amazing pictures. The dogs were so fun and loved being taken for a ride with them. We were able to hold some of the puppies back down at the camp but it felt like we were a little rushed and would have liked to have some more time. There were tons of pictures that they took of us and we didn't have any time to look at them to possibly buy.

We recently did the mushers camp excursion when we were in Skagway on our cruise. It was a great experience!! Austin Taylor was our guide and he was extremely knowledgeable of the history of the area which added to the trip. Our 2 children (ages 6 and 3) loved it and our son yelled "weeeeeeeeee" the whole ride. Being able to hold the puppies at the end was also a highlight for our family. I highly recommend Alaska Excursions.

We booked this as an excursion through our cruise line. Our driver was Tim and was very friendly and told us all about Skagway as we drove to the musher's camp. We took the Unimog up the mountain and got to ride with Harley in the front of the Green Hornet on the way up. The dogs are very excited to see the unimogs arrive and can't wait to pull their sleds. Our driver was Ryan Redington and he told us all about his experiences in the Iditarod and his dogs. After going on the sled the Unimog took us down the mountain and stopped at an observation point that was perfect for pictures and we saw an eagle flying around. When you reach the bottom of the mountain Dave took us aside and told us about the equipment used for the Iditarod and how they take care of the dogs and other fun facts. Then you get to play with the puppies and have free time to explore the puppies and the gift shop. We had a great excursion and would recommend this to anyone. Everyone was very nice and friendly and answered any and all questions.
