We took a tour to Sedona and the Grand Canyon on Tuesday, after our original tour was canceled due to bad weather. Our tour guide was dynamite! We drove through the scenic Sonoran Desert to Sedona. The landscape was stunning, the rock formation of Arizonas red rock country were simply amazing. The formation of sandstone and limestone, deposited at the bottom of an inland sea hundreds of millions of years ago and the presence of hematite or iron-oxide which rusts and stains the surrounding sandstone a red color. Who would have thought?
In downtown Sedona we had time to check out the shops, galleries and restaurants, which just opened and watched candlemaking. The candles are dipped at least 50 times. Then we drove to all the famous must have picture stops to show, we were there. Our tour guide knew the perfect spots -- great!
Our van climbed up to 6,000 feet before we reached our first stopping point in Grand Canyon National Park. We drove along the rim of the Grand Canyon, the South Rim, the crown jewel of our trip. We had our picnic lunch at the look out point, soaked up more scenery and learned about the Grand Canyons natural history and visited the Hopi house. Dynamite! Stunning views! It was the best thing ever.
