Sonoma Valley

Your tour will begin with pickup from your Sonoma area hotel. Depending on where you are staying will define the tour region that you will be visiting. If your accommodations are outside of the winery region, you can arrange to meet us a general meeting spot. You’ll visit three charming, backroads wineries and be served a picnic lunch in an idyllic winery setting. Your tour guide will tell fascinating stories and share many interesting tidbits about local history, culture and wine making. This is not a smarmy or touristy activity. Our specialty is intimate, light-hearted and truly memorable. This tour is sure to entertain with a very approachable and easy-going style. Discover and savor new experiences tasting some of the world’s most celebrated wines. Our typical guest is not necessarily a wine expert but keen to learn a bit about wine and wine-making, and is open to sharing the experience with a few other like-minded wine adventurers.

My husband and I have take Platypus wine tours before and had an outstanding experience. Sadly, this was not the case on August 11. Prior tours with Platypus included visits to five wineries and a lovely gourmet quality lunch with fresh sandwiches and “Ina Garten” quality side salads. The first two vineyards were ok. Lunch has been reduced to a passable boxed lunch which was nothing to write home about. The last wine tasting took place at a vineyard which was under construction and took place in their parking area near the portapotties…really?! With all of the lovely vineyard choices, this was the one chosen by our driver Dave Johnson…so disappointing! I used to recommend Platypus tours to all of my friends visiting Sonoma and Napa. Unfortunately I can no longer do this.

Hello Susan: Thanks very much for taking the time to provide this tour feedback. I am truly sorry this most recent experience failed so utterly to live up to the past tours you've taken with us. While it's true that many market factors have changed in our industry in recent years, and we've had to make adjustments in our tour offering, it is our duty to figure out how to still deliver to our guests a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable tour. Clearly, we came up short for you. I hope you will accept my apology. Certainly, we'll use your observations to improve the experience.

Went on a tour with 8 others with fabulous guide Jared, who was very friendly and knew his stuff inside out. He selected three great wineries. My favourite was the Wellington where we had a great picnic lunch and some great refreshing whites and light and full bodied reds. The group was excellent and really interesting. Well done Jared & everyone at Platypus Tours. PS I have nabbed the title from Craig Revel- Horwood, one of the judges on the mother show of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

This was the first wine tour for my daughter and me. Our guide was knowledgeable and interesting and chose three diverse wineries to visit. We were lucky to travel with a friendly, fun group. It was a wonderful way to spend the day in wine country! I would highly recommend it!
