Overview

Here at Ohana Surf Project we believe our clients are like family, and we strive to provide the best service to every person who chooses to join us on the water and we welcome their loved ones who come along to support them as well. We are passionate about surfing and specialize in three ways of teaching you how to glide across the water: surf, stand up paddle and bodyboard. All of our staff members have been in the business for many years and are some of the finest instructors in the industry. We love what we do and we enjoy working together, as a team and as ohana to make our students feel safe, comfortable, and successful.

Our biggest priority is SAFETY! All our coaches and guides are professional, trained in safety (CPR, lifeguard, first aid), and friendly.

Suitable for all physical fitness levels
Family lessons require at least one child 12 or younger and one of their parents. Additional family members may be added.
If a student needs to be on the same board as the instructor then the child will need his/her own private instructor. Often children 6 and under may be on a tandem lesson, although if older kids feel uncomfortable in the ocean, then a tandem lesson helps them feel safer and is recommended for them as well.
If any participants cannot swim please advise the staff ahead of time as a private lesson may be recommended.
If any participants have any medical conditions or injuries that we should be aware of please advise the staff ahead of time.
If you are prone to seasickness, you may want to take a remedy you are accustomed to using about an hour before the lesson (talk to your doctor for recommendations).
These lessons are a ratio of 1 instructor for every 3/4 family members.
All of our written materials are also available in Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. We will do our best to accommodate, but cannot guarantee, Japanese, Korean, Spanish or Chinese speaking-instructors with enough advance notice.
Please come prepared for the lesson by wearing your bathing suit, bringing a towel and making sure to apply sunscreen ahead of time.
Complimentary transportation is available from select locations in Waikiki. Exact pick-up location and time will be emailed to you by the supplier.

We did a family surfing session for me and my 9 year old son and a private 1 on 1 session for my 7 year old as he's not a confident swimmer. It was all of our first time trying surfing. Our instructor Kevin and Alana were spectacular. Both are great at what they do and they made the whole surfing session fun and non-intimidating. You basically will be among other groups of surf lesson takers as you will share the space. Therefore, you will encounter other instructors who will help guide you and give you comments. The photos and videos were also outstanding and worth purchasing. All in all, we are so happy that we made the decision to join Ohana Surf Project for our first experience!

We had 5 people doing this and our ranged from 47-7, they were great at working with us all. We had to upgrade because my 7 yr old isn’t a strong swimmer and they suggested she have an Instructor on the board with her for the two hours who would paddle and assist her, it was $60 additional to what we had already paid but it was worth it for her to feel safe. I only went out once because I twisted my ankle on the way out to the lesson but I was able to sit on the board and watch my girls swim and it was awesome!!!

This was an amazing activity. My 8 year old daughter was very nervous and they calmed her down and had her up on the board in no time. They challenged my athletic teenager so he wasn’t board and they were patient with my middle aged self. We are a family of 5 with kids age 8, 11 and 15 and I felt safe and comfortable the whole time.
