Overview

Here at Ohana Surf Project we believe our clients are like family, and we strive to provide the best service to every person who chooses to join us on the water and we welcome their loved ones who come along to support them as well. We are passionate about surfing and specialize in three ways of teaching you how to glide across the water: surf, stand up paddle and bodyboard. All of our staff members have been in the business for many years and are some of the finest instructors in the industry. We love what we do and we enjoy working together, as a team and as ohana to make our students feel safe, comfortable, and successful.

Our biggest priority is SAFETY! All our coaches and guides are professional, trained in safety (CPR, lifeguard, first aid), and friendly.

We look forward to welcoming you into our ohana and showing you the aloha spirit that has kept each of us here in Hawaii-- enjoying life & good company, respecting the 'aina (our mother earth), having fun and staying active.

Suitable for all physical fitness levels
Family lessons require at least one child 12 or younger and one of their parents. Additional family members may be added.
If a student needs to be on the same board as the instructor then the child will need his/her own private instructor. Often children 6 and under may be on a tandem lesson, although if older kids feel uncomfortable in the ocean, then a tandem lesson helps them feel safer and is recommended for them as well.
If any participants cannot swim please advise the staff ahead of time as a private lesson may be recommended.
If any participants have any medical conditions or injuries that we should be aware of please advise the staff ahead of time.
If you are prone to seasickness, you may want to take a remedy you are accustomed to using about an hour before the lesson (talk to your doctor for recommendations).
These lessons are a ratio of 1 instructor for every 3/4 family members.
All of our written materials are also available in Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. We will do our best to accommodate, but cannot guarantee, Japanese, Korean, Spanish or Chinese speaking-instructors with enough advance notice.
Please come prepared for the lesson by wearing your bathing suit, bringing a towel and making sure to apply sunscreen ahead of time.
Complimentary transportation is available from select locations in Waikiki. Exact pick-up location and time will be emailed to you by the supplier.

My niece and I had a great time learning to surf. The staff was all very patient with me and tried whatever they could to help me get up. Unfortunately, I was not able to, despite their best efforts. My niece got up every time! We would recommend this for sure! I can’t say enough good things about the staff.

Ohana Surf Project was outstanding. We were paired with Chelsea and she was excellent. She had our 9 year old up and surfing in no time at all. The entire staff was very helpful and friendly. Definitely recommend!!!

Ohana Surf Project was absolutely perfect for what my 11yo daughter and I were looking for in a first time surf lesson. Everyone was super friendly and our instructor, Kevin, was spot on with his demeanor while instructing. Aside from some rain, it was a perfect lesson!
