Overview

Learn to surf on this 2-hour group lesson on Oahu. Join a group of students and discover how to ride the waves like some of the Island's most famous celebrities with the help of a certified, professional instructor. We have small student to instructor ratio of 1 instructor for every 3-4 students. Waikiki Surf Lesson starts a 10 minute safety slide show inside our surf shop, followed by heading to the beach and practicing on the sand for another 10 minutes. In our 20 year experience, we know that surfing is muscle memory, so when first timers master their surf stance then they tend to get up on their very first wave.

WORST expt ever. 1. they claim it was group of 3-4 ppl, while there are 7 people in my group. ( 2. The instructor was unprofessional. He said he would help us catch the wave by pushing us. But he only did it TWICE in the 2-hour session. 3. He keep flirting with other young girls in our group. they were accompanied by him for more than an hour. While he keep ignoring us even though we are just around him. 4. One of the instructor with bread was very RUDE, I saw he yell at others all the time. 5. Two of us are sent back eariler just because they didn't "paddle fast enough."

However, I would like to address some points where there appears to be a misunderstanding. Group Size: Your booking was confirmed for a group of 3-4 people, and for a group of 7, your session included 2 instructors, as is our policy. Instructor Support: Our instructors follow a structured approach to help each participant learn and progress throughout the session. The instructor did provide assistance throughout the session, not just twice, as stated. Other people in your group stated that the instructor even towed you in to help you get a wave and towed you out of the water. It's also worth noting that your group did not pay attention to the safety briefing at the surf shop, which included important instructions on what to do in the water. Professionalism of Instructors: We maintain a high level of professionalism at all times. Our instructors were attentive to all group members, and there was no inappropriate behavior or favoritism during your session. Rude Behavior: The instructor you mentioned has been with us for a long time and is known for being direct but never rude. We have reviewed the session footage and received statements from people in your group confirming that there was no instance of him yelling at participants. Additionally, none of our instructors have beards, as was claimed. As mentioned in the safety briefing, we share the surf break with local surfers, and it's important to remain aware of your surroundings. Local surfers can become frustrated if others do not pay attention. Sending Participants Back Early: As clearly stated in the safety briefing, our top priority is safety. The decision to end a session early is always based on the skill level and safety considerations. In this case, our instructors determined that two members of your group needed to return to shore for their safety and the safety of others in the water. As mentioned by one of our shop associates before you met your instructors, it was crucial for your group to listen carefully. Unfortunately, from the start, your group did not pay attention, and every piece of information had to be repeated at least three times. We strive to provide the best experience, and we regret that your expectations were not met this time.

Full disclosure: I stink at surfing. I've faceplanted in Bali, the Rockaways and Kaua'i. But I was determined to surf in Waikiki and this place was recommended by our hotel. The waves in Waikiki are excellent for a beginner. Seth and Kalei were very chill and encouraging. I managed to stand most of the time and I'm glad I got the photo package (done with zoom lens and a drone). One thing I'd take a half star off for is the prep. It's just a quick video overview of what to do (fine for me, maybe not so much for a total beginner). Overall, highly recommended.
