Overview

Learn to surf on this 2-hour group lesson on Oahu. Join a group of students and discover how to ride the waves like some of the Island's most famous celebrities with the help of a certified, professional instructor. We have small student to instructor ratio of 1 instructor for every 3-4 students. Waikiki Surf Lesson starts a 10 minute safety slide show inside our surf shop, followed by heading to the beach and practicing on the sand for another 10 minutes. In our 20 year experience, we know that surfing is muscle memory, so when first timers master their surf stance then they tend to get up on their very first wave.

Mum and I wanted to try surfing while we were in Hawaii and staying at Park Shore meant that Hans Hederman were on our doorstep! We had loads of other trips booked and popped our heads in on the day to see if they could fit us in and they did! Awesome! Mum and I both carry various injuries which we told the staff about. My injury meant an adjusted position on the board and one of the staff took the time to take me through it separately from the rest of the group. We both managed to stand up on the boards - amazing!! Never thought that would happen in a million years! My injuries started to ache about half an hour into the actual surfing so Mum and I finished our lesson early, heading back to shore - content to sit on the beach until everyone else was finished. But a member of staff came over to make sure we were OK, took care of the boards for us and walked us back. Amazing service, amazing team, amazing care and 100% success rate in getting people up on a surfboard!!

This was my first experience on a board (not even paddle-boarding), and I was so incredibly happy with my surfing lesson! Our instructors Jimmy & Bronson were awesome instructors and I was so happy to have been able to ride all of my waves. I even rode one close to shore. They were thorough, and always made sure we were riding correctly and safely! I am pretty sure everyone in our group was able to successfully stand up on their boards (even if only for a little while). My best friend had taken a surfing lesson before in Florida, and said she was never able to get up on her board. She said the instruction that we got from Hans Hedemann was so much more informative and she was able to ride the majority of her waves. We were both extremely happy, and I honestly want to take up surfing as a hobby now! There were even some young kids, maybe 9-13yrs old who we're able to surf as well, so I definitely recommend it to those who are at least average fitness level. They do have someone taking photos, so there is a chance to purchase pictures afterward. (I wish they took video though). If I ever come back to Oahu, I will definitely look into a next level surfing class with them! Mahalo, Hans Hedemann staff!!

I found Hans Hedemann Surf School by reading online reviews, having had some mediocre surf lessons from other companies in the past. Hans Hedemann's team was fantastic! The surf lesson started with a helpful slide show of dos and don'ts to make sure you didn't do a header into coral and knew how to respect the "surf lanes". Then, after donning the provided reef shoes and rash guards, we progressed to the beach, picked up our soft top boards, and went out to the sand for instruction of how to stand up on the board. Our instructor (one guide for four people, a great ratio) was very helpful and answered my ton of questions about where to lay on the board, how to read the ocean waves to know what's a good one ("the one that makes you a little afraid"), how to steer, etc. Once we paddled out, the instructor pushed us into the surf to help us catch our first waves - and every one of us (first timers, mostly) managed to stand on every wave! Toward the end of the lesson, I was able to catch waves without my instructor's help - the true sign of a successful lesson! I wholeheartedly recommend the Hans Hedemann Surf School! And bonus - we all got free tee shirts at the end of the lesson. There was even a photographer taking pictures of all of us in the water (photos available for purchase, of course), and I almost looked like I knew what I was doing in the photos - at least enough to convince the family back home. Thanks to Hans Hedemann's team, I'll be back in the water with my board (and a lot more confidence) in the future! (a guest review by Rescue Bot wife)
