What To Expect

The Official Art Deco Gift Shop

Founded in 1976, The Miami Design Preservation League has proudly offered guided walking tours of The Art Deco District for over 40 years. All Proceeds go towards supporting preservation. Visitors are introduced to the history, architecture, and preservation efforts of Miami Beach. Tour ticket includes free admission to the Art Deco Museum and Gift Shop. There are a limited amount of tickets available for each tour, so early bookings are encouraged . Please arrive 15 minutes prior to tour departure for check-in.

For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.

I did the walking tour to get an informative guide on The Art Deco District. I'm from the U.K., and there were people from all over U.S.A. and Canada and a few other Europeans. Our Guide was good, showing us all the most iconic buildings, and explaining the history. Going in to a few of the hotels was fantstic. The reception areas are so beautiful,even though they are mostly restored as opposed to completly original. It took an hour and a half and was really worth doing. The shop next door to the Art Deco Visiters Centre has very good stuff in, a real treasure trove.

My family and I took the Art Deco Walking tour with tour guide Kent, an incredibly knowledgeable guide. We thoroughly enjoyed his exuberant personality, his wealth of knowledge on the history of south beach and his helpful tips on places to dine and affordable lodging in South Beach. I would highly recommend this tour and try to get Kent as your guide, you won't regret it.

This 90-minute walking tour (which turned into 2-hours, much to our delight) was an insightful and enjoyable way to understand the history and architecture of Miami Beach led by our guide, Paula, who was an extremely knowledgeable tour guide/docent. She showed us the old, the new, the renovated and the abandoned buildings along Ocean, Washington and Collins Avenues, where we could grasp the magnificence of all the buildings and their architects. We even went inside several buildings, such as the Essex House, to admire the craftsmanship of original terrazzo floors as well as the renovations/restoration to bring the Art Deco design back to life on the interiors as well as exteriors of the buildings.. The tour made all of us truly appreciate the value of the Miami Design Preservation League to help maintain Miami Beach's historic look for generations to come. If you plan on going to Miami Beach, the Walking Tour is a definite must-do to truly appreciate the story behind the famous buildings.
