This week I took the Official Art Deco Walking Tour for the third time, and by far the best, with tour guide volunteer Kent. I've been vacationing in South Beach with my family for almost a decade but I learned so many new things with Kent. The tour is 90 minutes and covers about a mile walking. Each time I've taken the tour I learn new things and see different buildings and landmarks so it's worth doing again if you've already been! Kent gave us a wide scope of South Beach history with great humor and personality thrown into the mix. He also gave us some fabulous recommendations for new restaurants to try - we've been to all of them since the tour just a few days ago and one was better than the last! It was my sister-in-law's first trip to Miami Beach and she loved learning about what makes SoBe unique and how it all came to be. Also note that this is a great activity for the cloudy days down here - even during a drizzle. The gift shop is great too at the Art Deco welcome center. Don't miss this tour!

Very enjoyable 90 min walking tour, taking in the outside and inside of some of south beach art deco buildings. Guide was easy to follow, appeared to really know the subject and had a number of funny stories to boot. Much recommended.

Kent, our friendly and witty guide, gave us a thorough rundown on the history of Miami Beach (less than 100 years old), then brought us to see some Art Deco gems. The Essex Hotel's lobby with its beautiful mural was a highlight, as were the Winter Haven and the Victor. The 90-minute tour provided us with helpful context; we enjoyed the rest of the weekend pointing out "eyebrows," "frozen fountains," "portholes," and "the rule of three" in the historic district. Take this excellent tour and discover these concepts while also helping to sustain the efforts of the MDPL.
