The Real Hollywood Walking Tour

Overview
On our Hollywood tour we go back in time to when the name first appeared on maps in the 1880’s, then we’ll tell you how and why the start-up movie industry first moved to this small farming town in the early twentieth century.

By walking the streets of Hollywood you’ll get the chance to discover the many hidden historic sites in the area (such as the oldest house in Hollywood, where Charlie Chaplin’s kids went to school), as well offering you the best up close and personal experiences of such icons as the Walk of Fame, the Capitol Records Building, the Egyptian Theater, the Dolby Theater (the home of the Oscars) and the TCL Chinese Theater where your Hollywood tour ends, in the perfect place to get lunch or get some great shots of the Hollywood Sign for Instagram.

Our tour guide was great at sharing interesting historical info. He covered topics that were all new to us - capturing the true founding of the area and the people who helped build this town.

Great tour! The host was so friendly and knowledgeable — he wasn't just going to landmarks and reciting something he'd read on Wikipedia, he knew detailed history and lots of cool stories for each location (ask about why Carroll Burnett's star is placed where it is!). We walked at a relaxed pace, but still hit up lots of different stops and learned a lot. And as a bonus, we saw Drew Barrymore filming for her show at the Chinese Theater at the very end of our tour! While you aren't guaranteed to see a celebrity or film set on the tour like we did — chalk it up to random luck — you are guaranteed to hear some really interesting facts and anecdotes about Hollywood history from someone who clearly knows their stuff and has a great affinity for the industry.

As you'll quickly realize walking around Hollywood, there are a LOT of tours to choose from and I really feel like we lucked out in choosing the best possible option with this tour. Our guide Chris was incredibly knowledgeable and fun to talk to. He had a wealth of information, interesting stories, and gave us some great recommendations for places to check out while we were in town. I'm so glad we did this tour as one of our first activities in town, it gave us lots of context and stories to relate to as we explored more on our own. We hit all the major touristy spots you want to see, but also get some fun information and sites a little off the beaten path. Highly recommend, this was truly a highlight of our trip!
