What To Expect
1
WeVenture New Orleans
Your New Orleans Total Day Tour starts where it all began, on the banks of the Mississippi River. From here, you’ll witness the lifeblood of this region which brought new cultures, new influences and new ingredients to the USA through its ports. As they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. To wake up your taste buds, we’ll indulge in New Orleans’ most iconic breakfast pastry, the beignet.
2
French Market
Next we will head to The French Market, the site of America’s oldest public market and then on to the picturesque streets of the French Quarter where your guide will take you to some of their favorite palate-pleasing spots. You’ll sample both a classic dish, as well as a delicacy that you’ve probably never seen outside Cajun country. You’ll then have the chance to try a dish that sparks more controversy amongst chefs than any other in New Orleans: gumbo. We’ll also indulge in a sweet treat made from locally grown sugarcane and the region’s abundant pecans.
3
French Quarter
There will then be an opportunity to have a coffee or do some souvenir shopping in the French Quarter with your guide before we take a short walk to Jackson Square, where we’ll begin the cocktail portion of your total day tour! We will be going beyond the tourist trail to show you what really makes New Orleans cocktail culture unique. For our first cocktail stop we will travel back to the 1700s and visit a bar which used to entertain some of the most eccentric characters in New Orleans history. We will taste a famous drink of the city and learn how it has influenced New Orleans drinking culture today. We will then visit one of your guide’s favorite bars and taste a drink so good you’ll forget there’s alcohol in it. Next up, we will sample the ‘official cocktail of New Orleans’: the Sazerac. One of the first cocktails ever invented, it’s definitely tasty enough to stand the test of time. Our final cocktail stop will be at one of the classiest establishments in town to try one of the city’s most esteemed drinks, the Ramos Gin Fizz. After your first sip, you’ll truly understand why New Orleans has been called, “the cradle of civilized drinking.”
4
Louis Armstrong Park
There will be an opportunity to rest your feet or grab a bite to eat before the jazz portion of the tour begins. Then we’ll head over to the historic and beautiful Louis Armstrong Park in the Tremé neighborhood.
5
Frenchmen Street
We'll begin to make our way to the popular Marigny neighborhood, named after the nobleman and good-time guy of the same name. Updated for modern thirsts, Marigny is a hip nightlife area that appeals to New Orleanians and visitors alike. Your guide will lead the way, making sure to point out a few popular local music and nightlife haunts along the way. Soon we will arrive at the famous Frenchmen Street, the largest concentration of live music venues in the city. Your guide will take you inside one of his/her favorites for a beer on us (you’re very welcome to purchase additional beverages if you want them). In New Orleans, there’s always the opportunity for an element of surprise. We’ll be on the lookout for impromptu street performances, which always make the night special. And if the timing and mood is right, we’ll get behind the scenes with one of the bands in between sets.

Rene Brunet hosted the foodie part of our tour and he was fun, knowledgeable, and we took many of his recommendations with unerring satisfaction. Sophie Ormand guided us through five of the local bars for some classic NOLA cocktails. She knew her stuff, made great conversation, and greatly helped us scout out the bar scene. The food and drinks on this tour ranged from “not for me” to “I’d like another”, our motto was “when in Rome...”. We only got to visit one club on the music part of the tour for some reason. Frenchman St was pretty crowded that night. Overall, we got a great introduction to the French Quarter and would recommend the experience to all.

We took the full-day food, cocktail, and jazz tour, and loved every minute of it. This was the perfect way to spend our first day in New Orleans, to learn about the city's history, to enjoy abundant samples of food and drink, and hear some great music. The highlight was our guides - Butch, Sophie, and Rene. On every leg of our tour, the guides were fun, knowledgeable, and full of fantastic recommendations. There's no better way to experience a city than to do it with residents, who can take you where the locals go. I'd recommend this tour to new and experienced visitors.

I had the pleasure of taking the all-day tour of New Orleans: 1/3 food tour with Kiazer, 1/3 cocktail tour with Sophie, and 1/3 jazz tour with Yvonne. In simple terms, I re-fell in love with New Orleans, thanks to this tour and the guides. Kiazer chose an excellent food tour route that included the right balance of classic New Orleans cuisine with hole-in-the-wall spots and a rich history of New Orleans from his lived experience. Sophie brought tremendous enthusiasm to showcasing both the rich diversity of New Orleans' cocktails and the charm, allure and romance of the city that has made her a life-long loyalist to New Orleans. Yvonne did an excellent job of unpacking the evolution of jazz and giving due credit to the many greats who have shaped it over the decades. I had a thoroughly rich experience and highly recommend this tour with Urban Adventures to anyone who wants to learn about and experience as much of New Orleans as is possible in a single day. Kudos, team! -- Cristobal, San Francisco, CA
