What To Expect

Atlantis Submarines Waikiki

The Atlantis submarine Hawaii adventure begins with a short (approximately 10 minutes) shuttle ride out to the submarine boarding site. Descending below, your time underwater on the Oahu submarine tour is around 45 minutes. Returning to the world above, your shuttle is waiting to return you to land. The Oahu submarine tour dive site is home to many Hawaiian fish, coral and turtles. On this truly eye-opening experience, you'll visit sunken ships, airplanes and other artificial reefs. The submarine has a spacious air-conditioned interior, large view ports and comfortable seating. If you haven't taken a trip to the bottom of the ocean before, the Atlantis Submarine Oahu Adventure is a "must do" for the whole family during your visit to Hawaii. Check out the world's largest hi-tech 64-passenger submarine offers an enhanced amount of personal space and large viewports only available to Premium Tour passengers.

This was a unique experience and a memorable activity. The process from disembarking to the actual submerging of the submarine was exciting and has a definite wow factor. We did not see loads of sea life, however, the views were amazing!

Being in a submarine is a once in a lifetime experience. We descended 31 meters (100ft) below water, seeing tons of colorful fishes, artificial reefs, sea turtles and sunken vessels and planes. The narrators were great, which is something you don't get when scuba diving.

I would reckon one of the rarer activities you could do as a civilian is board a genuine submarine and cruise around under the waves, rarer still would be doing that and having your own large porthole to look out of (closed of course). Well my wife and I can tick the sub and porthole boxes as complete thanks to the brilliant Atlantis Submarines in Waikiki. These guys operate two subs for tours one of which is the largest commercial recreational sub in the world. We were staying at the HHV and received a discount and so paid around US$110 per ticket. The price is well worth it for the experience that comparatively few people get to have. We found the staff to be very friendly and welcoming. You are taken by a large multi-deck motor catamaran from the dock at HHV out a little way off Waikiki where you board the sub of your choice (premium larger sub is a few more dollars but larger seats and portholes). We did the premium sub. After boarding and the hatches are sealed you break loose from the boat then submerge below the waves getting to a depth of around 100 feet at times. You cruise around a series of natural and man-made reefs consisting of sunken ships and planes all containing lots of fish some of which are quite large. We have previously been on a faux sub which is effectively a deep glass bottom boat but this experience was far better. Overall the dive is around 45 minutes and both sides get good views. Once on the surface you again dock with the boat and make your way back to shore. A word of caution. Watch out for the rude ignorant tourists who push in front of you or rush to one side of the surface boat to get a photo of the other sub surfacing. Overall a tremendous and highly recommended experience.
