What To Expect

Atlantis Submarines Waikiki

The Atlantis submarine Hawaii adventure begins with a short (approximately 10 minutes) shuttle ride out to the submarine boarding site. Descending below, your time underwater on the Oahu submarine tour is around 45 minutes. Returning to the world above, your shuttle is waiting to return you to land. The Oahu submarine tour dive site is home to many Hawaiian fish, coral and turtles. On this truly eye-opening experience, you'll visit sunken ships, airplanes and other artificial reefs. The submarine has a spacious air-conditioned interior, large view ports and comfortable seating. If you haven't taken a trip to the bottom of the ocean before, the Atlantis Submarine Oahu Adventure is a "must do" for the whole family during your visit to Hawaii. Check out the world's largest hi-tech 64-passenger submarine offers an enhanced amount of personal space and large viewports only available to Premium Tour passengers.

Very cool adventure seeing all the marine life below the surface. Staff did a wonderful job explaining the boat and plane wreckage and how it got down on the bottom of the ocean. A must see experience.

I certainly enjoyed being abroad a submarine and felt very safe. However, what you see is very boring. The deeper you go the more the colours of fish etc disappear so when you get to the bottom everything is grey. Indeed where they take you is all contrived with an old fish boat and the remains of two small aircraft, all sunk to supposedly make a reef. The man made reef is a joke of plastic pipes and concrete blocks covered in a grey slime. At these depths nothing grows on them as there is no light. They certainly cannot be called reefs. The sea bed is just a grey sandy bottom. The guide was entertaining and only one reference made to "tips" which I did not see any being given out. The ticket says that the trip is 2 hours. This includes the bus from the hotel and the boat ride to the submarine. You are actually only 45 minutes on the sub. Again, great to be on a submarine, but poor value for money if when you go down there is nothing of interest to see.

the scenery was dull underwater, saw a few fish and a couple of sea turtles. The experience of being in a sub was exciting. like some others have mentioned, make sure and take something if you're apt to get seasick. The boat going out to the sub can make for an unpleasant day if you get queezy. I used Seabands that helped me a lot. Probably not worth the cost, but now my kids and i can say we've been 130' below the water in a sub!
