Great way to taste local food & get recommendations for the Island. We had a fun time, my teens tried new foods and our guide was just lovely. Definitely go at the start of your trip!

Max Nalu Hart arranged for delicious fish tacos to be ready and served steaming hot upon our arrival. From there, we walked and ate and ate and ate. Fabulous Hawaiian fried chicken at one establishment. Delicious custard pie at another. And chocolate bonbons, prepared by women whose family owns a local chocolate farm, to take home with us. Not only did we learn about food offered by the vendors of Hanalei, but Nalu introduced us to a shop where the proprietor screens T-shirts while you wait, using beautiful silkscreens that are in some instances decades old. And he also introduced us to a shop where beautiful handmade ukuleles are sold. The two hours we spent with Nalu were entertaining and well worth the price.

I enjoyed the information that our guide provided about the area, not just the food. I enjoyed walking around Hanalei and getting a 'feel' for the community. My friend who chose the tour got good information about parking and where to meet. We went to 5 places, none of which I would have chosen on my own. I tried poke and macadamia nut pie for the 1st time. What I would improve: smaller portions, (tastes, not a full portion), much less wait time, more variety of foods. Smaller groups -- We had 13 people, which contributed to the wait time. Our guide apologized many times for the wait time, and he was very friendly and helpful. He worked to bring the group together. He did have a tendency to start talking before everyone was close enough to hear. (Smaller group would help.) Even though it makes sense to do this trip at lunch time, the restaurants are too busy at this time. This certainly contributed to our wait time.
