We wanted a private tour of the area as we journeyed here with our family of 5. Jan was our tour guide and was excellent! She gave us wonderful information along the way at each destination. We learned a wonderful amount of information and are grateful that we chose this tour! It was exactly what we had hoped it would be! The open-top van was amazing as we drove through the Needles and the Wildlife Loop in Custer State Park! We could easily stand up and snap amazing pictures! It was like driving through the Black Hills in a convertible! We loved the Wildlife Loop in Custer and were able to see marmots, prairie dogs, Buffalo, deer, and antelope. We even saw a white buffalo on our way to Sylvan Lake! Excellent, excellent day! The only bummer was the fog settled onto Mt. Rushmore and made it challenging to see, but that was out of everyone’s control. ;)

Howdy Suzanne . . . Thank you for taking time for your review. I'm very happy that your tour with Jan went well (except the fog). Jan is a very talented guide and we are fortunate to have her. We have had a 'strange' spring weather but the convertible tops allow us to open/close the top as needed. As for the 'white buffalo' . . . that's from a private heard of a local rancher. I'm contacting him to find out the story about it's unique color and I will publish what I find on our website. Once again . . . thanks for kind review. Be Well - Rich

From the moment Jeff arrived at our hotel from the moment he left us in awe of what we had seen, this was an amazing trip. Lasting almost 8 hours. With a picnic halfway through, Jeff was in complete control and knew his subject intimately. Mount Rushmore itself was wreathed in a low fog initially, so rather than be disappointed we went on a different portion of the tour until the fog cleared and there were the four presidents in all their glory. Our tour was an opportunity too to see wild animals like Bison, (The proper name for Buffalo we were told), Elk and even Prairie Dogs, although on this occasion all the animals were a bit shy so a little scarce on the ground. We also went to see the Crazy Horse memorial carving, an absolute monster of a statue to a local Indian leader. At the end we were quite exhausted from seeing so much beautiful scenery so we asked for our trip to be cut a little short so we could go back to the hotel and lay down!! Overall a fantastic day out with an exceptional guide - well done!

Hi GB - Our Mt Rushmore Safari Tour can make for a long day . . . but you get to see the most you can of the Southern Hills in a day. I'm very glad you enjoyed touring with Jeff! He recently retired from 4th grade teaching . . . but can't give it up completely he still hosts pro bono tours of the Badlands to students from his old school. I'm glad the fog cleared for you got to see the 'Faces'. It's been another strange weather spring in the Hills. But the good news is we have the ability to open/close the van tops to fit the weather. Thanks you so much for taking time for your review. I will pass this on to Jeff. Be Well - Rich

Due to snowfall the day and night before our tour, some roads were closed, and we were unable to do the complete tour that we scheduled. BUT our guide told us about what we weren't going to be able to get to in such a way that we felt like we didn't miss a thing! Our tour of Mount Rushmore/Crazy Horse Memorial and Custer Park was wonderful. We learned so much and felt we couldn't have had a better tour guide!

Howdy Irma - Thanks for your understanding about the Hills unpredictable weather this year. The Highway Department has done a great job of opening our most scenic roads when passable . . . Needles Highway and Iron Mountain Road where open day to day based on the conditions. I'm happy to say they are both open from now on. To our future guests the calving season has started and the 'Little Red Devils' are again running around Custer State Park. We had some winter fire damage but we now know its not affected the wildlife as much as feared and things are now 'greening up' in the Park and back to the usual. Thanks again Irma for taking the time for your review. I hope you will return again for more adventures! Be Well - Rich
