Walking along Hollywood Blvd you'll find numerous people selling bus tours to see the stars homes and all of the sights of Hollywood, Beverly Hills and the general LA area. They range from 1 hour to 3 hours depending on the tour you pick.
After talking to a few different companies, we decided to go with this one after talking to Melrose Larry of Howard Stern fame. I was really impressed by the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence that they had and all of the positive reviews that I saw here.
Melrose told us that we would get up to the Hollywood sign and see the houses of Tom Cruise, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Logan Paul and a few others. He said that they had seen Kardashians on their tours and visited a number of spots where the celebrities hang out.
He cuts us a deal on the price, but insists we pay cash. There's an ATM at the shop with a $3 fee, so not horrible. We wind up paying $100 for 2 adults and 2 kids. That turned out to be $100 too much.
First he tells us the bus is leaving at 11:30, then noon. Noon comes around and we are waiting. The bus is there but no driver. The driver eventually shows up and we leave around 12:30. There are 9 of us on the bus and the driver attempts to be funny throughout the tour, but fails consistently. We go around a couple of blocks and he points out a few sights here and there, but not too much that isn't already common knowledge. He stops on Hollywood Blvd and says "there's the Hollywood sign" You can't go up there but this is the best picture you'll get of it. Not long after that we drive down a side street where he talks about the price of the apartments there and says if he saved up enough money he could stay in a port-a-potty that is on the street there. I knew then we were in for a rough tour.
We stopped at a light next to Hollywood High School, which happened to be across from a Chick-Fil-A. Why is this important? Because the entire time we were stopped at the light he talked about Chick-Fil-A instead of the high school. He did mention it as we were pulling away and as we came down the block again he mentioned it, but I think he still talked about chicken and waffle fries more.
We went up Mulholland Drive and he pointed out a number of houses there. No idea if he was actually telling the truth, although I'm sure I could look some of it up later. We went through Beverly Hills and down Rodeo Dr and then up Sunset past the Whisky A Go Go and the Comedy Store and some other icons. The total tour took almost 3 hours and after about 45 minutes of it we were just done.
Then the driver had the gall to ask for tips at the end. I'm not sure if we just had a bad driver or what, but I wouldn't suggest this tour to anyone visiting.
