There are several observation decks to chose from in NYC. The top of the rock is perfectly positioned in midtown with eye-level views of all of NYCs iconic architecture (instead of views that are too distant or towering above). Rockefeller Center is a legendary building itself, and it’s location and height are what makes it the best view of all the other options. I’ve visited NYC several times and the observation deck is always one of my top recommendations to anyone else that is planning a trip.

I ordered our tickets walking there because I wasn’t sure exactly what time we would get up. We were there by 9:30 on a Tuesday morning and there was no line. We didn’t have to wait and it wasn’t crowded on the observation decks. It was a beautiful sight to see and I highly recommend it. They offer to take your pictures before you leave and it’s only $30 for 4 digital prints. They come out great and make for a great memory.

Not only was this an unpleasant experience but it was also incredibly unsafe. The “Top of the Rock” was overcrowded & no one would move from the ledge to allow all visitors to see the view. The second tier of the deck was even MORE crowded (if you can even imagine this) and again - people would not move from the ledge and numerous others were sitting in between the ledge and walkway so it was almost impossible to even move around. All visitors are assigned a specific time to visit but there are no employees regulating this time to ensure all guests have the opportunity to properly experience “Top of the Rock”. We all pay for our tickets and I believe this attraction can be much better regulated for a safer and better experience. I was able to take the best photos from the windows on my way back down, if that tells you anything.
