Desert Highlights is Moab's original canyoneering guide service. This half day canyoneering tour visits a route that Desert Highlights' founder created as a technical guided canyoneering route in the late 1990's. Here, we explore an area that most people would not visit on their own. With the use of ropes and other technical gear, a competent guide and a sense of adventure, we are able to explore areas that are otherwise inaccessible. The Moab desert is our home and we are passionate about sharing it with others. During your guided tour, you will not only safely descend a beautiful, water-carved canyon, but you will learn about the flora and fauna, geology and history of the area that we are so lucky to call our backyard.

This was the highlight of our family trip across Utah! Our canyoneering tour was full of (very real) personal challenge, beauty and education all in a very relaxed style. Our guide Ed was amazing. He has a unique gift for connecting with people and encouraging them and is full of knowledge and a passion for the canyons' history and the delicate, intrinsic beauty of the area. He is personable and easy going and made us all feel seen and comfortable no matter our level of experience. Our daughters, both 11 years old, absolutely loved it and want to do more repelling soon. We highly recommend this trip for families who up for some physical/mental challenge and an adventure they will remember.

We had an amazing experience with Desert Highlights canyoneering! Jake was a phenomenal guide. He was so great at making you feel completely comfortable and at removing any anxiety. Safety was at all times the number one priority. He never made us feel rushed and was genuinely having as much fun as us. There was no doubt ever of his ability or his love for the outdoors. We were the last tour of the season and everyone there was just as excited and helpful as if it were opening day! If you are even thinking of a guide in Moab please do not miss the opportunity to use Desert Highlights. You will not be sorry!!

Amazing! Honestly, I was terrified just imagining what I was getting myself into, but Kai was so reassuring and safe, and it was the most exhilarating experience. Kids 14 and 10 both loved it. The hiking was awesome, too. The company was so prepared, accommodating and friendly. I can’t wait to do this again!
