Desert Highlights is Moab's original canyoneering guide service. This half day canyoneering tour visits a route that Desert Highlights' founder created as a technical guided canyoneering route in the late 1990's. Here, we explore an area that most people would not visit on their own. With the use of ropes and other technical gear, a competent guide and a sense of adventure, we are able to explore areas that are otherwise inaccessible. The Moab desert is our home and we are passionate about sharing it with others. During your guided tour, you will not only safely descend a beautiful, water-carved canyon, but you will learn about the flora and fauna, geology and history of the area that we are so lucky to call our backyard.

This was the first time canyoneering and rappelling for both me and my friend. Our guide, Kira, was fantastic! She obviously knew the area well, and she was so patient and supportive to both of us who had never gone through this experience before. She guided us through every step and stayed friendly and encouraging all the way through. Rains had recently flooded out the trail, and Kira knew exactly the best way to hike back from our adventure. It was the most thrilling, challenging and invigorating experience of my life! Never thought I would try this at the age of 63, and Kira was the best!

Great canyoneering trip with Kiera to Medieval Chamber! Our family of 5 (kids 9 to 14) all had a blast and managed without difficulty. Loved the flexibility of a private tour!

We enjoy hiking but wanted to try something different during our trip to Utah. We booked a canyoneering trip in Medieval Chamber with Kai and Desert Highlights. This was our first experience canyoneering, and it was truly amazing! A few of us (the parents) were a little nervous but Kai went through the process step by step. Kai’s experience, professionalism, and knowledge put us at ease. Our 15 and 19 year olds loved the adventure! Not only was the canyoneering fun, it was in a beautiful setting! We saw many nice places and did a lot of hiking during our trip to Utah but the scenery at the site of the climbs and the hike out were stunning! We learned a lot about the area from Kai during the hike too. We researched vendors for various excursions and are so glad we went with Desert Highlights. The team was highly skilled and the personalized trip was great for our first canyoneering trip because we could go at our own pace. We will try a full day canyoneering trip with Desert Highlights the next time we visit!
