The Needles Highway is more than a 14-mile road—it’s a spectacular drive through pine and spruce forests, meadows surrounded by birch and aspen, and rugged granite mountains. The road’s name comes from the needlelike granite formations that seem to pierce the horizon along the highway. The roadway was carefully planned by former South Dakota Governor Peter Norbeck, who marked the entire course on foot and by horseback. Construction was completed in 1922. Short stops at Sylvan Lake and for viewing unique rock formation called the Needle's Eye, so named for the opening created by wind, rain, freezing, and thawing.

IT was a very good tour, the guide gave good input abbot various special points. and friendly. Very helpful. beyond what he needed to be. The only recommendation I would say is put a "mike" for guide to talk into for those who are a bit hard of hearing.

Hi Sandra - I'm glad you enjoyed your tour. I'm not sure why a microphone was not used . . . they are available in all the vehicles. I will investigate and make sure they are used in the future tours. Thanks for taking time to review. Be Well - Rich

NOTHING ….. We were at pickup point after confirming night before with tour operator. Next morning operator DID NOT show at the pickup point. We waited close to an hour past pickup time hoping they would show. After they knew they missed us they reached out but I said we were on vacation and did not want to waste a large part of the day waiting for such a poor effort. Nor was a refund offered. AVOID this operator at all costs!!!!!

Hello Freddy - I appologize for the delay in pickup time. Our guide had a health issue that morning and was replaced by another guide. We attempted on many occations that morning to contact you but did not recieve any reply to our phone messages and texts. We wanted to discuss the options available; we could have provided the tour for you that day with a later start, rescheduled you for another day or we could discuss refunding your payment. We would still like to speak with you, please contact us to discuss. Be Well - Rich To our future guests: Things can go wrong for many reasons. The best way to correct any issue is communication and working together to resolve it. Please contact us to discuss any problem, get a clarification or just get information. Thanks and Be Well - Rich

We were 6 in a comfortable van with high headroom and large viewing windows… The guide, Mike, was very informative and accommodating to our small group. We could have spent a little more time at Mt Rushmore. Overall the excursion was great.
