This was my first visit to the Whitney's new location in the Meatpacking District, and I was truly wowed! The building is truly stunning with its exterior staircases, sculpture gardens and spectacular views of the city and the river. We had a light lunch on the roof terrace (8th floor Studio Cafe), which was very pleasant. It was a treat to explore the galleries, which currently feature over 600 works from the museum's permanent collection, organized chronologically from the early 20th century to the present. As a true art lover, I was thrilled to see so many American icons displayed in a thoughtful manner, often with unexpected juxtapositions. With the high ceilings and vast spaces, works were able to be displayed without crowding . It was too much to take in on a single visit -- I must go back very soon! If I had had more time, I would have hopped on the High Line for a stroll afterwards, since it ends right at the museum.

The new Whitney Museum is so impressive. They have an outstanding collection of very relevant contemporary art. The entry fee is way too expensive - it's a little beyond an acceptable price range unfortunately. However, it's well worth it as it's an amazing museum.

Awesome is often an overused word in these parts, but new Whitney really is. An unbelievable amount of art in fantastic surroundings.
