Amelia Island is full of rich history, and is the only location in America to have flown 8 independent flags. It’s rich history takes us on a journey through time including the Timucuan Indians who were our first inhabitants as far back as 2000 BC. The flags tell the story of religious struggle and persecution, the effect of Christianity disallowing any other God to be worshiped. The devastating impact of the Revolutionary war on the island and rebels acting in the name of higher power. Smugglers, slave traders and pirates have all had a part to play in the evolution of this Islands growth. This fascinating tour will take you on a journey through time and show you how such a small barrier island has had a major and little know impact on the history of America. The eight flags tour takes you on a historical journey through all of the locations that those flags have flown over the islands incredible history. The only location in America to have had this number of independent flags. You will travel through the historic downtown district and out to the original Fernandina. On our journey we will cover each of the flags, the period from which they flew and the historical significance behind all of those dates from a historical perspective.

My husband and I enjoyed our tour of Amelia Island hosted by Daniel of Historical Tours. His historical knowledge of the island was outstanding. My husband and I booked this tour for our first full day on Amelia Island. We wanted to know a little more about where we were staying for the week. Our guide, Daniel, was clearly well informed and had great interest in the history of this area. His stories were interesting and enjoyable. We learned a lot and had a wonderful time. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to know about the history of this area.

This was our first time to Amelia Island so needed to get a good layout of the area and our driver and guide, Dan did a marvelous job of lots of history and plenty of stops and time for questions and answers. There were 4 couples so we filled the van. After a fantastic tour, we asked for recommendations for dining and his suggestion was wonderful with a view of the sunset. Would definitely recommend this tour.
