Amelia Island is full of rich history, and is the only location in America to have flown 8 independent flags. It’s rich history takes us on a journey through time including the Timucuan Indians who were our first inhabitants as far back as 2000 BC. The flags tell the story of religious struggle and persecution, the effect of Christianity disallowing any other God to be worshiped. The devastating impact of the Revolutionary war on the island and rebels acting in the name of higher power. Smugglers, slave traders and pirates have all had a part to play in the evolution of this Islands growth. This fascinating tour will take you on a journey through time and show you how such a small barrier island has had a major and little know impact on the history of America. The eight flags tour takes you on a historical journey through all of the locations that those flags have flown over the islands incredible history. The only location in America to have had this number of independent flags. You will travel through the historic downtown district and out to the original Fernandina. On our journey we will cover each of the flags, the period from which they flew and the historical significance behind all of those dates from a historical perspective.

A 90 minute tour, packed with history and lovely architecture, all from the knowledgeable and witty driver, Daniel. Listening to his Irish accent was a plus!

Thank you for your much appreciated feedback. It's always a pleasure to ride out on the amazing history of Amelia Island. The diverse and little known history and as a bonus the amazing architecture that came from one of the most amazing periods in our history, just after the Civil War. Add to that retail stores, bars and restaurants and you are truly in for a treat. I hope that you enjoyed all of the above and experienced some of those addititions that I've included. You were the best and I really look forward to seeing you all again really soon. A huge thumbs up for the 5 stars! I’ve never been to Amelia Island before and this was the best first excursion for our trip! Our driver was informative and funny, plus he gave us all the best recommendations for restaurants and activities in the islands! The Salty Pelican, recommended by him, was in fact the best place to eat fresh local shrimp and with the best view of the marina! We stopped for a quick break at a boat ramp and where able to look for shark teeth and shells on the shoreline and take some amazing pictures of the main river way by the boat ramp pier! Overall, it’s a great overview of historial sites and history that allows to them enjoy the remainder of trip with a better appreciation of the area. I highly recommend it!
