First you need to choose which bus company to go with. We opted for Big Bus as it offered a more comprehensive route around Chicago. In trying to plan ahead, we came across the website describing different combinations and chose the classic tour with no add-ons. The ticket promised free popcorn which did not materialise despite boarding on one of the specified stops. We used the tour to orientate ourselves to the city, and also as a means of transport to get to the various tourist attractions. As a result, we experienced a variety of guides and drivers, some better than others.

Great way to see the city! Rich was our guide and he did a great job. I recommend this tour. Great way to hop off and on at all the big sites.

I enjoyed the bus ride. We had several guides as we did use different buses by getting on and off. It’s a great way to get your bearings and decide what you want to go back to visit during your trip. Each guide is different with delivery. Certainly some are better than others. I would not have known about visiting the federal reserve if one guide hadn’t mentioned that he had been. Really enjoyed the night time tour. It only stops once for a photograph across the lake of the night time sky line. On a clear evening that is spectacular. Only negative about the buses is that they don’t slow down past the things being pointed out. The trees are high so even on the top deck you will be lucky to get photos of some things being pointed out unless it’s a tall building. We found it useful to then go back on foot and walk to the points of interest and get decent photos. On the whole is was a good tour. Is it worth the money? Probably priced a bit high for this particular tour. There are a lot of stops. If you wanted to get off at each one to visit the attraction you will need a good few, long days. That’s without taking the bolt ons such as the river cruise into account. The leaflet has a map of the route. If you like walking it’s closer together than you think. Get a detailed map and you will see a lot more.
