Black Cat Historical Day Tour

Overview
Our daytime historic tour is a story of Pirates and Puritans, Witchcraft and War.  We travel around the city of Salem and share the tales of its amazing history.  From its humble beginnings as a city founded on the idea of peace for all, to the site of the largest incident of witchcraft hysteria in the modern world, learn how it became one of the biggest shipping ports in America, played host to some of the most famous authors of all time, and learn some of the biggest secrets this city has to offer!

Our daytime walking tour lasts about an hour and forty five minutes, and covers a mile's worth of the downtown area. It is an easy walk, but we suggest comfortable shoes and clothing to match the season. Our tours are unscripted, and can be customized to every group's particular areas of interest!

My husband and I took the tour in July of 2014. Dan was a passionate, funny, and incredibly well[-versed guide. We got to learn about so much of Salem's history, including a lot of the nautical history that is sometimes overshadowed. There was a great balance of humor, history, anecdotes, and lore. As others have said, you definitely get your full money's worth as the tour will last 1.5-2 hours. It is very well-paced, though, so you never walk too far at a time or stand in one place for too long. I would definitely recommend the tour and would go on it again next time we are in the area.

We took the Black Cat tour at the end of Oct 2014. Our tour guide Laura was awesome!!! She knew the history of Salem to a "T". Even though we did not see any ghost, the tour was very interesting and enjoyable. I would do this tour again with Laura. The tour was one of our highlights of our trip. Thanks Josi Toronto Canada.

We experienced Salem after dark through the enthralling storytelling of our tour guide, Daniel. He was fantastic! Not only were his tales accurately conveyed, providing us with a history lesson, but his narratives were chilling and spooky. He is a captivating, funny theatrical storyteller. We followed him through Salem as he took us back through time to when witch hysteria was ran rampant. This is the only tour we did in Salem and it was definitely worth the driver from RI. We passed other tours and their guides were using microphones and bullhorns. The loud AV noises really took away from the mysterious of the tour. I love that Black Cat Tours stays true to storytelling by NOT using AV devices. Don't worry, you'll be able to hear Daniel just fine! The tour - advertised as an hour long - was TWO hours long. We definitely got our money's worth! Customer service - EXCELLENT! Be sure to use the restroom BEFORE the tour. No restroom breaks.
