What To Expect
1
Exit Glacier
This is where your Glacier Hiking Adventure takes place. The hike up the mountain is approximately 1.5 miles, with 1,500 feet of elevation gain - this is the most physically exerting part of the trip. This is the part of the trip that requires the overall rating to be Strenuous. 8-Hour Tour: The 8-hour tour departs at 8:00am and returns at 4:00pm. The whole tour will last about 8 hours in total, with the possibility of spending upwards of 2 to 4 hours on the ice! The "ice-time" all depends on how long the hike up the mountains takes as a group. We do not rush any part of this trip, and the group will move together at a comfortable pace. *The 8-hr tour offers a more relaxed/flexible pace with more rest breaks, if needed.

Kenai Fjords National Park
At the edge of the Kenai Peninsula lies a land where the ice age lingers. Nearly 40 glaciers flow from the Harding Icefield, Kenai Fjords’ crowning feature. Wildlife thrives in icy waters and lush forests around this vast expanse of ice. Native Alutiiq relied on these resources to nurture a life entwined with the sea.

I cannot recommend this trip, and specifically KBA, strongly enough. This was the one excursion that I did not plan in advance - I called a few days prior to arrival and they were SO accommodating and helpful! Brittany was amazing, and I can't say enough about our guides, Isaac and Todd!! They made the trip enjoyable, manageable and safe (very knowledgeable!), and Todd was particularly patient with me as I struggled to keep up with the group on the hike, in addition to some anxiety issues, including fear of heights. He was so kind and helpful in talking me through it. This is worth every penny and reasonably priced!! My husband and I did this trip with our 18 and 16 year old sons - they are used to adventures (my oldest is an Eagle scout) and not hard to please. Needless to say, they were THRILLED with this adventure - it was definitely the highlight of their 2 weeks in Alaska (and we did A LOT of fun things/excursions). This is so unique and a life-changing experience. Rather than get on a boat to cruise around Kenai Fjords to look at glaciers, why not hike ONTO one?! Just do it!!

We loved our hike up the Exit Glacier with Kenai Backcountry Adventures. Kyle and Isaac were both very friendly as well as very professional and conscientious throughout the hike. Absolutely gorgeous view and a totally unique experience. Thanks guys!

A truly exceptional experience which sealed the Alaska trip for us. The scenery was stunning, the glacier itself majestic and the mountains and views they afforded simply outstanding. Walking on the Glacier was a unique experience made all the more special by our guide and instructor, Todd, who was excellent, professional, enthusiastic, confidence inspiring and very knowledgable. The walk to the Glacier from the car park was fun in its own right and by the time the reached the ice we welcomed the cool katabatic wind flowing down it. The Ice is a mix of deep Blue, Turquoise, white, clear, opaque and a mixture of all of these - its impossible to explain and you need to see it for yourself. Also the sheer scale can not be told from photographs. Kenai backcountry Tours were excellent, everything was seamlessly organised, from pickups to food to equipment. We were really impressed. Overall the best experience of the holiday and one that I would absolutely recommend to anyone who is interesting in discovering a unique environment in a low impact and enjoyable manner.
