Hale Hoaloha Luau at the Mauna Lani

Overview
The luau is held at the beautiful Mauna Lani, Auberge Resort at Kalāhuipuaʻa, which is a historical area where ancient Hawaiians mastered the art of aquaculture and where King Kamehameha came to recuperate and work in the fishponds.

Guests are welcomed with a traditional Oli (chant) in preparation for preliminary activities with the cast. After the activities, watch as the pig is taken out of the traditional imu pit before it is prepared for the Hawaiian buffet.

The program is capped off by a performance of traditional and modern Hula dances, along with the spectacular Samoan Siva Afi (fire knife dance).

Hale Hoaloha Luau at the Mauna Lani
The Hale Hoaloha Lūʻau is a celebration of the beauty and stories of the land area known as Kalāhuipuaʻa. Considered the “piko” (center) of the majestic mountains of Haleakalā, Kohala, Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa and Hualālai, the Mauna Lani is a special place to all who have the privilege of enjoying its beauty. Traditionally, lūʻaus are important family celebrations with a feast of favorite foods, sharing of moʻolelo (story telling), mele (music) and hula. Hale Hoaloha Lūʻau brings together all of these while sharing Mauna Laniʻs majestic history and the true essence of aloha, ʻohana (family) and kuleana (responsibility) with everyone in attendance.

We visit every summer and they are on our list since we found them! The Ohana vibe and the fresh food is just the tip of the iceberg. The dancers are phenomenal the host and his wife are incredibly talented... the musicians are wonderful and the entire night is magical. We have visited several times and we always feel like family! The only thing that would be better is if they actually invited us to their family luau! I love this luau so much! We have been to several on every island and this is as close to family as you will get. Mahalo for continuing to embrace us into your Ohana!

I cannot say enough good things about this Luau. It was absolutely amazing and so much more than we expected! The food was delicious and plentiful. The servers were very attentive. The show was amazing and the storyteller brought me to tears. Hula dancing, music, fire dancing, OH MY!!! This luah was a little more expensive, but so worth it. This was the only one I found that actually cooked the pig in the ground and we got to watch as they uncovered it. This luau should be on your bucket list for the Big Island!

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening with the Mauna Lani luau! The food was delicious, entertainment top notch, and setting very beautiful. We appreciated being presented with complimentary kukui nut leas upon arrival as well. We were very impressed with the great variety of fresh fruits, veggies, and delicious meats and sides and, of course, the uncovering and presentation of the imu at the beginning of the night. The main male singer had one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard and all the singers and dancers seemed to truly enjoy their jobs and performed from their hearts. The only negative was the difficulty we had in actually finding the venue. There is no signage indicating where to go and the directions on the luau website led us to a small bar that was over a mile away from the correct location. The bar tenders told us that we were the third couple they had encountered with the same wrong directions that night. Please, put up some proper signage to avoid this difficulty for future visitors. We did not know to drive to the hotel at the end of the road and ask for directions from their valet until the bartenders told us what to do.
