Half Day Grand Teton Wildlife Safari Tour

Overview
Explore the National Elk Refuge, home to thousands of wintering elk, hundreds of bison, bighorn sheep and an array of bird life before venturing into Grand Teton National Park. Jackson Hole’s wintering wildlife is abundant with opportunities to see bison, elk, deer, moose, fox, coyote, bald eagle, trumpeter swans, and if we’re lucky, wolves. If time allows we might also choose to stop at the Jackson Hole Visitor Center or the new Moose visitor center in Grand Teton National Park. The route varies seasonally based on group interest, road closures and wildlife migration.

We chose the half day safari tour in the morning, which lasted from 7:30-11:30 ish. Dave was our guide and he was great! Picked us up in Teton Village at our condo with juice, muffins, and snacks. Also provided commemorative water bottles. He had binoculars for every one to borrow and a scope that provided unreal views! Dave was super knowledgeable about everything we asked about. We saw moose, bison, mule deer, and elk. We missed the bighorn sheep but he told us to come back to the elk refuge the next day and lo and behold: bighorn sheep right next to the road! Incredible experience with unreal views and photo opportunities. Definitely recommend Dave and these safari tours.

We went on a 1/2 day Grand Teton Safari at the end of October. Because it was the end of the fall tourist season, it was just the two of us with our guide, McKinzie. We were spending the week in Yellowstone and had seen lots of wonderful wildlife there, but had not been able to spot a moose which my boyfriend really wanted to see. McKinzie found us many opportunities to see moose, elk, beaver, swans, and other great wildlife but they turned out to not be the highlight of they day. While stopping to see some ducks and other water birds on one of the lakes, we spotted a family of 6 otters out fishing. We got to watch them for a long time as they caught their fish, took them on the bank to eat them and then ran around and played. What a complete treat. That experience is definitely one of the highlights of our whole trip for both of us. And something we never would have seen just wandering around by ourselves. Thanks so much to McKinzie for adding that bright spot to our time in Wyoming and Montana.
