Half Day Snorkel Trip on Reefs in the Florida Keys

Overview
Come join us snorkeling some of the most beautiful reefs within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and Pennekamp State Park. We have many possible reefs to explore: Molasses, Elbow, French Reef and the famous Christ of the Abyss on Dry Rocks. These protected areas offer an opportunity to see turtles, spotted eagle rays, moray eels and a variety of different fish. These special reefs are part of the 3rd largest living reef system in the world and the ONLY living coral reef in the US. We stop at two different locations on the reef. Each stop is determined by the captain based on the day's conditions. We cannot guarantee any specific site.

In an effort to reduce the amount of single-use plastic that ends up in our oceans, we recommend bringing a reusable water bottle. We have water coolers in our shop and on our boats for your convenience!

We went on this excursion with Captain Brian and 1st Mate Nicole. The Pirates Cove staff did a nice job. But don't be fooled regarding this trip. We've been on several snorkel trips throughout the Caribbean, and all found this area to have the roughest seas. Many patrons got sick, including two of the three people in our group. We went in February. When I asked, I was told that the waters are much calmer during the summer months. We made two stops, including the Christ of Abyss statue, which was really cool. But honestly, there were not a lot of fish on these coral reefs, at least, not compared to other trips we've been on. But don't let that deter you, especially if you are going when the waters are calmer. Sunshine, wind in your hair, and a nice snorkel swim, are always good. Just be sure to take some nausea meds, and get some wristbands for seasickness before you go.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a thorough review. We are glad you enjoyed your trip with our crew! You are correct that the summer months have calmer seas overall. This can definitely be a bumpy time of year, and we do our best to inform all our guests about conditions to give them the chance to determine if they are going to have fun on the trip. We hope you can join us again sometime in the summer. Thanks again for your feedback!

Itā€™s great in general,The tour suppose to be 3 stops, but they actually did 2 stop. We were very disappointed. The tour staff did not explain the history or background of the site too much. It will be great if they explain what is this site, what you are going to see and which direction you should swim to. Also, the driving distance from the meet up point to the snorkel point is very far away and the wave is very big, so many guests have sea sick. I would recommend them to send a warm reminder before the trip to the guest about that. So guests can make decision if they would need to take sea sick pills before the trip or not. The assistant is very helpful to the guests for safety and putting up the gears.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your honest feedback. Our excursion site does say that we go to two different stops (please see the Activity Description section). While we have a list of various sites that are available to visit (such as the Christ Statue), we do not say that we have a set visit to the Statue. All of the sites we visit are captain's choice based on conditions - which determine where our guests will be the safest and have the most fun. We apologize if there was any confusion on how sites are selected. As with any boat trip, sea sickness medication is recommended if you are prone to feeling ill on boats. Whenever seas are forecasted to be significant, we do contact guests to let them know. However, on the date of your travel, the seas were not expected to be high. Some days are really difficult to predict whether seasickness will be an issue, and we do our best to inform guests when we think it makes sense. We have medication at our shop for guests who are concerned. Unfortunately, some people who book online do not get the opportunity to talk to our staff as much beforehand to get more information about the snorkel trip. We rely on the details we provide on the excursion page to give you an accurate idea of what to expect. We are very sorry if you felt that our description did not prepare you for your experience, and we will review the details. Please feel free to contact us at (305) 453-9881 or email [email protected] and we will be happy to try to make you feel better about your experience. We do appreciate your business and we want all of our guests to feel safe and have fun on all of our trips.

We had a great time snorkeling in Key Largo. I have only been a few times and my mom had never been so it was super helpful that they took us to a calm area first to get acclimated. The crew was very helpful, making sure everyone was comfortable and taken care of, they gave great instructions and kept everyone safe! Would highly recommend!
