The Civil Rights Tour (Harlem Heritage Tours) of Harlem did not disappoint. Mr. Neal Shoemaker was an awesome guide. It was nothing short of a grand day walking in the footsteps of the ancestors (Malcom X, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., etc.) It was an honor to meet Mrs. Salaam, a mother of one of the Exonerated Five and such a humble woman with a spirit of strength. This tour provided an awesome experience for my mom's first time in Harlem. Thank you also to the community of Harlem for welcoming us. No place like Harlem,NYC!ā¤ Thank you Mr. Shoemaker and Harlem Heritage Tours. - Tahja from Maryland's Eastern Shore

Our tour guide Neal was born and bred in Harlem and he is well-known around the town with many people stopping to shake his hand or reinforce to us just how loved "Mr Harlem" is. His knowledge is exceptional. Neal has a speaker he uses to assist in the experience, so you can hear the famous speeches by Malcolm X or Martin Luther King on the very spots they were first given. He gives historical and contemporary examples of civil rights struggles. Neal is interested in who he is taking on his tours as well, and asked all about who we were - some of us were even given Harlem street names! A fantastic experience, you will be very entertained as well as gain important insight into civil rights. Highly recommended!

I am very interested in the civil rights struggles of African Americans, Neal's knowledge and presentation of the subject brought it alive for us. The tour around the historic sites in Harlem was extremely interesting. We learnt about Malcolm X, Dr King, Nelson Mandela's visit to the area and the role of the Baptist church in the freedom struggle. Well done Neal! Thanks again for an interesting afternoon.
