Small but interesting piece of history. Tour guides take you in two different rooms and show and explain what some of the tools and medical procedures were preformed on the soldiers from the fort. It was interesting to learn how the Spanish were trained for 10 years to become doctors, very advanced for the time, even able to remove cataracts, and a survival rate of 75% which was fantastic back then

This was such a fun and educational place for us. The kids were entertained by the demonstrations and we all enjoyed the information provided by our guide. We were sent back in time in our minds to experience what life was like for a Spanish soldier in need of medical help. The Spanish Military Hospital is a must see for school aged kids - adults, lots of fun and learning.

This was not the most popular tourist spot in St. Augustine, but I found it one of the most interesting. Visitors are lead by a knowledgeable tour guide who takes you through the three or four rooms; the topic is health and "hospital" practices way back in the day. There is a lot to look at in terms of antique medical instruments, and the anecdotes the guide told were very interesting. It was downright fascinating to hear the thinking that guided the medical care of the day. It made me appreciate how far our doctors have come in terms of understanding the human body, and also how far they surely have to go! This is a must for any medical professional, or for anyone interested in herbal medicine. It only took about an hour, and is located on the oldest street in St. Augustine, which in and of itself is a charming place to visit.
