I took my two step kids ( 12 and 14) on the Hollywood and Celebrity Homes tour on a Tuesday afternoon in July. I'm from Los Angeles and I've been on other similar tours, my step kids were visiting from Sweden.
The tour was okay. We enjoyed being out in the sunshine and taking in views of the city. Some of the information was interesting and the homes were beautiful. However, there were a few things that would have made this a much better experience.
1. the drive was unclear in pointing out the celebrity homes and landmarks. He would often say ( the house on the left or right) without providing additional information, making it difficult to know which house he was talking about, especially as he usually couldn't stop in front of the house. It would have been better if he had given us an identifying feature of the home- "the blue house with white shutters on the right..." We usually had no idea which house was the actual celebrity home.
2. He drove fast, really fast. We understood that due to traffic, he couldn't always stop, but the pace of the driving and weaving, was frightening at times. Luckily the van had seatbelts.
3. The tour was an hour and forty minutes, when it was listed as two hours. He also stopped in two different locations to drop people off in Hollywood, which we didn't realize was an option. We parked at Hollywood and Highland, as we were doing other things in the area and wish we could have caught the bus from there. He was very insistent that anyone he didn't pick up from that location, had to stay on the bus until the very end, even when he stopped to drop off another group. So if you count that extra time, the tour was really closer to 90 minutes.
4. He didn't give accurate information. For example, he told the tour that the Cinerama Dome is being torn down and replaced by apartments, which is simply not true.
I rated this tour at three stars, which was generous. I enjoyed the tour more than the kids.
