During this tour we can visit either the northern manta site near the Kona airport, or venture further south to Keauhou depending on where the best manta sightings have been. Our expert captains and dedicated guides are pulling out all the stops to make sure you get the best viewing possible.

Prior swimming & snorkeling experience is required to book this activity. Guest's must be able to independently climb up a side boat ladder. Not recommended for guest's who have undergone surgery or have mobility/physical restrictions. Contact tour operator for exceptions.

Our Manta Policy: Manta Rays are wild animals and Hawaii Island and Ocean Tours cannot guarantee their presence. If a manta ray is not seen on your night out with us you may try again on a different night, or on your next visit. Guests who purchased tickets at our full online booking price may come back out again for free. Tickets purchased through a 3rd party (such as TripAdvisor/Viator/Expedia...etc) or at a discounted rate may join again for an additional $30 per person. Please keep in mind that seats may be extremely limited during certain times of the year. We usually are very successful in finding mantas for you; however if they decide to take the night off the costs involved with setting up the charter will not allow us to offer you a refund. We appreciate your business and understanding of this policy.

This trip was amazing! We rode a Gemini boat out to the manta rays and felt safe despite the choppy water from strong winds that night. Eli was in the water with us and explained the process well and gave us great information about the manta rays. We were so happy we did this excursion and were very happy with our experience!

Love the small group; we did just the 5 of us and it was spectacular!!! We did this May 21 and want to give a SHOUT-OUT to DEREK: you’re the man Derek!!! Derek is out in the water the entire night greeting each small group that comes out. He is a wealth of knowledge, super friendly and we just loved him. The boat captain was super great as well as our greeter at the Van who checked us in and gave us wetsuits and snacks 😀. We have done night mantas before with a larger group but this small group ( they only take up to 6 ) is the only way to go! Plus we were in our own little area way away from all the hustle and commotion from the other tour companies and what is extra special with Hawaii Island Ocean Tours besides the small group and Derek is they use soft blue lights which is nicer on our eyes and you are able to see more and we could see the bottom and all the rays coming up from there with mouths wide open coming 2 inches from our face and doing barrel rolls and you do not get that with the other companies that use bright white lights. With the other lights you are almost blinded until all of a sudden the ray is there. We had at least 10 rays around us constantly the whole time we were in the water and we could see so much more with the soft blue lights. We love the mantas and now that we found Hawaii Island OceanTours we are a loyal customer and will always use them when we are in Kona. You guys are AWESOME!!! Everyone reading this review don’t look any further. This company is the BEST hands down!!!

After reviewing the many options out there for the manta ray snorkel, we decided to go with Hawaii Island & Ocean Tours because they offered a much more personal experience with a max of 6 people. Dylan was our captain and got us to the snorkel spot with ease even when the waves got bigger. Eli was our guide and really took great care of us. He took us around the bay to make sure we had as many opportunities to see the rays. He did not disappoint. Having these majestic animals come up to the point where they are touching you is an amazing experience that should not be missed. Don't hesitate booking this tour!
