Hoonah Whale Tours is a family owned whale watching company that operates out of Hoonah, AK. When taking this tour you will be on a private 6 passenger boat tour that goes out into Icy Strait. During the tour will you get the chance to see all sorts of Southeast Alaska wildlife, including bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters, sometimes brown bear and orcas and of course humpback whales! Our tours last between 3 and 3.5 hours and we guarantee you'll see whales or you money back. The boat is a 6 passenger catamaran, with a walk around deck, heated cabin, and a bathroom on board. We also provide snacks and beverages.

Hoonah Whale Tours

When out on our whale watching tour you will be in Icy Strait (body of water) You will get to see humpback whales (guaranteed!), sea lion, sea otter, and bald eagles. You even have the chance of seeing brown bear along the beaches, orcas and puffins flying by.

What a great trip. Amazing animals (Orca, Humback, Sea Lions, Otters and Eagles) were seen and the family that runs this are just great people. There were only 3 of us and the captain on the boat. We each had a home made muffin waiting for us when we got on!! This trip was a highlight of our Alaska vacation. Also got to talk fishing with a few of their kiddos on the van ride back to the boat. This family is raising their kids right and providing and outstanding service in Hoonah. If you're thinking about booking a trip with the cruise lines, DON'T, book here you will be much happier.

We had only been a group of three and they still made all the efforts and went above and beyond to make this an amazing experience. We were super lucky and had great weather. I have never seen that much wildlife before. The whales were so chill that they were floating on the top and the boat had to be careful to not hit any. This area and Juneau must be the best two spots for whale watching from what we have heard. We have see Orcas, Humpback whales, seals, otters and bald eagles. We didn’t know where to look because there was so much going on. I have done whale watching tours before which is why I can say that those guys were just amazing and offering smaller group tours (max 6) is an absolute plus. Thanks for making this happen, I had the absolute best time!

Was an amazing whale watching experience with Captain Joardan. There were only 4 of us on his boat, along with hot chocolate and homemade blueberry muffins from his wife. We were able to spend some time seeing Orcas, which was wonderful; and saw many active humpback whale throughout our tour - including a number of breaches, wavers, and tail-waggers. In addition, we also saw seals and otters. Joardan was great in finding and providing information about everything we saw. I would do this trip again in a heartbeat.
