Hoonah Whale Tours is a family owned whale watching company that operates out of Hoonah, AK. When taking this tour you will be on a private 6 passenger boat tour that goes out into Icy Strait. During the tour will you get the chance to see all sorts of Southeast Alaska wildlife, including bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters, sometimes brown bear and orcas and of course humpback whales! Our tours last between 3 and 3.5 hours and we guarantee you'll see whales or you money back. The boat is a 6 passenger catamaran, with a walk around deck, heated cabin, and a bathroom on board. We also provide snacks and beverages.

Hoonah Whale Tours

When out on our whale watching tour you will be in Icy Strait (body of water) You will get to see humpback whales (guaranteed!), sea lion, sea otter, and bald eagles. You even have the chance of seeing brown bear along the beaches, orcas and puffins flying by.

Awesome experience! Seen lots of whales! Seen lots of eagles and some otters. The muffins, hot chocolate and coffee made it extra special! Captain Jordan was excellent and found us some Whales.

We had a great time on our whale watching experience! The boat is fantastic. Jordan and his wife were welcoming. The homemade wild blueberry muffins were a hit with the kids. We were able to see whales, bald eagles, sea otters, gray seal, sea lions and even bears. Way better than a crowded double decker boat. This is a direct way to support local business as well. 100% recommend.

This tour was one of the highlights of our trip! There were only 5 people (including the captain) on the boat which was amazing. We saw tons of humpback whales the day we went (were literally surrounded by them on all sides!). We got to see several whales breaching which was absolutely spectacular. We also some quite a few sea otters. We were told the morning trip had seen orcas, but we didn’t get as lucky. The scenery and the whales were beyond incredible. Please support this family-owned business instead of booking an excursion through your cruise, those boats are often filled with 100 people.
