Overview

Welcoming guests to Kauai since 2007, Luau Kalamaku is Hawaii's only luau show performed “in-the-round,” offering optimal views of the stage. Witness the unearthing of the pig from the traditional imu (underground oven) and enjoy a hula lesson. A craft fair featuring unique items by local artisans awaits on the sprawling lawn. Feast on a delicious buffet of local and familiar favorites and enjoy a Mai Tai from the open bar. The 45-minute main show tells the amazing story of the ancient Hawaiian legend of Kalamaku “child of the new land." Through laughter, fear, seduction and fire, a new legacy is created, born from the cherished seeds of their ancestors. The theatrical luau show culminates with a fantastic fire dream featuring fire poi balls and traditional fire knife dancing.

This is our second time at a luau. We knew it would be a little different but we’re so excited at showing my mom the special atmosphere and introduction to Hawaiian food and culture. Everyone sat in a big covered building and the decor was extremely drab, dark, and looked old. It felt like we’re sitting in someone’s not-so-nice home instead of special. I thought maybe the drinks and food would be better. We had to wait in line to get drinks every time instead of being served. The bartender told us the capacity is around 800 which makes sense they can’t serve all 800 guests tableside. But for the cost there are much MUCH better luaus on Hawaii. The food was the worst part of the luau there were very few choices and only the Kahlua pig tasted good. There was zero magic and as my husband put it “mass produced”. The performance was the only redeeming piece of the show.

We had a great time. My husband and I loved the food, my 9 and 11 year old not so much. If you have a picky eater make sure they eat before. The open bar was fantastic. Very short lines and it was open until the show started. The show was a lot of fun. My kids loved the fire dancers. Overall a great experience.

Had a hard time choosing luau, took suggestion of concierge, not sorry. Very well organized, lovely facility, really good food. Always something going on. Check in is at 5, but get there by 430. Better parking, more time to walk thru vendors, open bar us generous, no watering down of drinks, pace yourself. Listen for prompts if you want to see them take pig out if ground. Live music playing whole time. In covered venue with stage in middle so weather not an issue. Really enjoyed it!
