Manatees/Sunset/Bioluminescence Tour

Overview
Experience everything the wildlife refuge has to offer with three distinct experiences packed into one three-hour tour! Launch your kayak in the daylight and surround yourself with Florida’s most-loved endangered species, West Indian Manatees! Sit back while the gentle giants roll, sniff, and nuzzle all around you. Dolphins are also active this time of day as they wrangle their dinner in the adjacent cove.

Next, head out to Bird Island, a federally protected rookery, to watch hundreds of birds soar in overhead. Ibis, herons, egrets, pelicans, cormorants, and roseate spoonbills and more all glide in their flocks to nest for the night. Be lulled into serenity by the gently rocking kayak as the sun descends for the night in the pinks, oranges, and reds of sunset.

Finally, the tour culminates in the season’s bioluminescent experience, whether it be summer bioluminescence, winter comb jelly bioluminescence, or a star-studded moonlit sky.

This was our first time on a Kayak tour. It will definitely not be our last. Our guide, Bri, was absolutely amazing. She was witty, personable, informative, and engaging. That is no easy task when you have a captive audience of 10 people for the Mondo Combo tour. Kudos to her for making our first time phenomenal. What an amazing and calm way to directly interact with nature. We saw; manatees; Super up close. It was a great time to encounter them as they came right up to all of us! They were up close and personal! Dolphins; right around sunset these lovelies decided to start jumping around. They didn't come to close to us. Comb Jelly; They weren't easy to find but Bri filled a jar with them and we each got turns holding and playing with them before we released them. Bioluminescent Dinoflagellates; these were tougher to spot as the moonlight (which was beautiful itself) was so bright. But as the night progressed you could see them "sparkle" as you rowed or splashed your hands in the water. I have Kayaked before but my wife did not. I was worried about 3 hours but it was totally doable. 10/10 will do again!

No words to describe the evening but…..it was a spiritual experience! The peacefulness was such an added plus. Nature at its most beautiful. 9 dolphins, count them, 9. Lost track if the # of the gentle giants ( manatees 💞). They came right up to the boat! Seriously! And evening fell and our bioluminescent experience began. This was the end of the winter season and so the comb jellies and their “stars and sparkles “ in the water were magical. We got to hold them and their iridescent glow was like no other, surreal. Logan and Mike were knowledgeable and fun. The tour was un-rushed and the guides made sure everyone was safe and enjoying the trip. 5 stars for sure!!
