Manatees/Sunset/Bioluminescence Tour

Overview
Experience everything the wildlife refuge has to offer with three distinct experiences packed into one three-hour tour! Launch your kayak in the daylight and surround yourself with Florida’s most-loved endangered species, West Indian Manatees! Sit back while the gentle giants roll, sniff, and nuzzle all around you. Dolphins are also active this time of day as they wrangle their dinner in the adjacent cove.

Next, head out to Bird Island, a federally protected rookery, to watch hundreds of birds soar in overhead. Ibis, herons, egrets, pelicans, cormorants, and roseate spoonbills and more all glide in their flocks to nest for the night. Be lulled into serenity by the gently rocking kayak as the sun descends for the night in the pinks, oranges, and reds of sunset.

Finally, the tour culminates in the season’s bioluminescent experience, whether it be summer bioluminescence, winter comb jelly bioluminescence, or a star-studded moonlit sky.

Brandi was a delightful and knowledgeable guide. She had our kayaks ready when we arrived. After our short kayaking refresher lesson, we headed towards the many dolphins which we had seen from the shore. This started out the tour awesomely and it just got better! After enjoying the dolphin for a bit, we kayaked around bird island where Brandi pointed out various birds. Then we headed back towards shore and kayaked down some mangrove trails where we saw a few manatee. After dark, I was mesmerized by the twinkling stars above as well as the bio in the water. We had a double-treat - we saw BOTH types of bio! The dino-bio is just going out of season and the comb jellies are just coming into season. (Thus, neither bio were prominent like in the pictures, but that was OK.) WOW! What a fantastic experience all around! Just being outdoors in nature with a great guide "hit the spot!" I can't wait to do it again! Thanks, Brandi!

A lovely time, our tour guide Jaden was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We saw a lot of wildlife and beautiful nature. We let him know we were beginners and he kept an eye on us to be sure we didn't get left behind.

Jaden our tour guide was excellent. Very knowledgeable and was aware of where his guests were at all times. Scenery was more than expected. We’ll be back for more excursions.
