Manatees/Sunset/Bioluminescence Tour

Overview
Experience everything the wildlife refuge has to offer with three distinct experiences packed into one three-hour tour! Launch your kayak in the daylight and surround yourself with Florida’s most-loved endangered species, West Indian Manatees! Sit back while the gentle giants roll, sniff, and nuzzle all around you. Dolphins are also active this time of day as they wrangle their dinner in the adjacent cove.

Next, head out to Bird Island, a federally protected rookery, to watch hundreds of birds soar in overhead. Ibis, herons, egrets, pelicans, cormorants, and roseate spoonbills and more all glide in their flocks to nest for the night. Be lulled into serenity by the gently rocking kayak as the sun descends for the night in the pinks, oranges, and reds of sunset.

Finally, the tour culminates in the season’s bioluminescent experience, whether it be summer bioluminescence, winter comb jelly bioluminescence, or a star-studded moonlit sky.

Varied tour in mangrove canals, open waters, flats and even a short break on a small but nice island. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the animals and the area. We saw manatees, an alligator, loads of birds when the sun was setting, flying in over our heads to their island, dolphins and tarpons hunting next to us. Luckily we avoided bumping into any sleeping manatees on the flats. And then some bioluminescence when heading back in the dark. I will definitely take this tour again if I get the chance. I will also remember my camera the next time.

Forget Disney ! This is where the real magic is in central Florida! Bob was a great guide - dolphin, manatees, birds, stars and bioluminescence! We were enthralled with the beauty and the peace .

The Mondo Combo was 4 hours and nearly 6 miles of kayaking in what can be descirbed as ideal conditions. Our tour guide Bob was definitely a stop and smell the roses kind of guy. A welcome change from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Highlights: manatees, Bird Island, sunset .... but the comb jelly collection was awesome. Some tips: a change of clothes is a must. Our group was well behaved but there was no getting around having our shorts soaked. Be sure to have a solid meal before departing. It is a decent exertion right through dinner time.
