Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

This was such an amazing experience. It took a little while for the mantas to come out and start eating, but once they did they put on a great show for all of us. The crew was amazing and made sure we got to the best spot to be able to see the mantas.

We're glad the manta rays showed up, and that you got a chance to see a great show. While we see the manta rays about 92% of the time, they are wild animals and we can not guarantee that we will see them every night, or if they will show up at all. BUT.... when they show up, it's always worth the wait! With a small-group experience, we are able to position our guests in the best manta ray viewing areas. Boats with larger groups are less nimble and often can't get into the best spots, and we think this is an important differentiator between us and other manta ray tours in Kona. Mahalo

This was our very first snorkeling experience, and Kiko and Ali (not sure I got the names right) taught us a lot and helped us feel comfortable in a very short time. The mantas were, indeed, magestic, and the guides made sure that we all respected and protected these amazing creatures. Definitely recommend this excursion!

By far the coolest experience I've ever had in my life!! Not sure if I recommend bringing kiddos though.. there is an element of fear and my kids freaked out. They are 8 and 10. The manta rays cannot hurt you but they swim right at you with their mouths open so you have to remain calm. It was an incredible experience though. I highly recommend!!

Wow, the coolest experience you've ever had in your entire life? That's so wonderful to hear! Thank you so much for the feedback. Thank you for raising the concern with the kiddos. While it can be scary to enter the ocean at night, with giant wild animals that weigh more than 1,000 pounds, it's a safe experience for snorkelers of all skill levels. Every child is different, and if anyone has any questions about whether the tour is appropriate for their child, please give us a call at Hawaii Oceanic and we'd be happy to discuss it with you.
