Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview

Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

You think you know what to expect from the photos online, but nothing compares to actually being there. Manta Rays inches from your face as they eat plankton... its wild! Watching them do their eating dance below you is so cool. You get about 45 minutes in the water. It took about 20 minutes before the Mantas came around to eat. They provide a wetsuit because it does get cold since you are just floating perfectly still while holding onto the light board. Overall, amazing experience that cannot compare to anything else.

The total experience was amazing! We saw lots of mantas and it was an easy snorkel with very helpful guides! My only suggestion would be a clearer way to find the group at the dock. Maybe a lighted sign!

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We have made some updates to our website language, and now have additional lights on our van, so we think it's easier to find us now. We will continue to find ways to improve the process of finding us in a crowded harbor, and we always recommend that our guests give us a call if they don't immediately find us upon arrival at the harbor.

This is an updated review based on my experience on July 11, 2021. After explaining our disappointment from our excursion being cut in half, Tom, the owner, graciously offered a refund. He took the time to listen to my customer concerns and is in the process of correcting the errors on his website. I am hopeful that anyone who uses this outfit will get the whole experience they paid for I. The future. The mantas are magnificent creatures and I still recommend anyone to take a trip to see them in their habitat. It’s a memory you will cherish!
