Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

Such an amazing experience! The crew was great, very knowledgeable and made the whole experience SOOOO much better than expected! My boyfriend and I went and there was a family on our boat too, the entire group had a blast and saw several manta rays swim right up next to us! LOVED IT!

Whole experience was fantastic. Captain and our guide Aaron were great. Spotted dolphins on our way out (extra bonus). We rode out for about 15-20 min then got in water. Team cares about safety and has you hang on to a surfboard with light to attract rays at night. Enjoyed sunset in water too. Don’t forget to bring towels and change of clothes for after.

My wife and I had an amazing time with Hawaii Oceanic! Unfortunately we didn't get lucky on our first try and no Mantas showed up. But Hawaii Oceanic allows you to come back and do it again for free if you don't get to see any. We actually planned for this and did the sunset night snorkel on our first night on the Big Island. We came back 2 days later and did the late night snorkel and saw 5 big Mantas as soon as we got in the water. They stuck around for the entire duration of our trip. It was an incredible experience and I definitely want to come back and do it again on a future trip! Highly recommend Hawaii Oceanic! The crew was awesome and very helpful and knowledgeable. My wife can't swim well and has never been in the open ocean before but once she was in the water and hanging onto the board she was totally comfortable and had a great time! I would recommend this trip to everyone, even if you can't swim. Since we did both the night and sunset trips I can say that you have a little longer of an experience on the sunset one because you're snorkeling around for a bit while you wait for the sun to set, which is nice. But the night snorkel had far less tour groups which meant fewer lights in the water competing for the Manta Rays attention. Both were great in their own ways! Just try to book your tour as early as possible on your trip just in case you need to do it a 2nd time like we did.
