Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

We went on the 4:30 Manta Magic with my whole family. It was absolutely MAGICAL! If you go at 4:30, you get to jump in the water before the sun goes down (not trying to get into pitch black water, my biggest fear about swimming in the ocean). They allowed us to snorkel the bay for about an hour and it was GORGEOUS! The boat ride is super rocky, duh it's the ocean, and while snorkeling, I even got a little motion sick, so take a Dramamine even if you are slightly prone or not sure. The mantas showed up before dark and it was absolutely the most amazing thing I've ever seen. You can't touch them, but them come right at you and I had to swim hard a few times to dodge them. We were in the water already by the time the sun started to go down so we were used to the temperature and not scared at all. It was amazing to see them up so close. We only saw about 3-4 mantas, but I'm sure if you're brave enough to do the Late Night dive, you'll see many more! Absolutely fantastic guides, felt safe and welcomed the whole time!! Wouldn't pick any other company!

We booked this trip because several friends had a wonderful experience and we were so excited to be able to experience it as well. I booked through Viator on TripAdvisor - and after spending 50 minutes in the car to get there, was told that we were not in Hawaii Oceanic's system. The employees were extremely kind and helpful - but even though I had printed out the Viator confirmation number, the boat was already at capacity for the night trip. We waited in hopes that someone would not show up - but they all did. I called Viator on the 50 minute ride back to the hotel - and was disconnected twice! This was definitely an error by Viator - and I had to argue with them to even get a refund on a trip they did not even book correctly. My suggestion is to make your reservations directly with Hawaii Oceanic to insure that you do not miss the experience! I rated this a 5 because I did not want Hawaii Oceanic to receive a bad rating due to someone else's error.

They were right. A great experience...must do. Our first booking had no Manta rays, but we just tried again free of charge the next night...boy! success. Anyone can do this. It was fun.
