Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

Captain Chad and Dylan were so filled with fun facts they kept us entertained on our beautiful afternoon boat ride. We lucked out and saw a few humpback whales! We even had time for some snorkeling in the bay after watching the sunset. It was such a magical moment being that close to the Manta Rays! I felt very safe. One of the others in our tour did not know how to swim and Dylan was right there with him the whole time. This tour provided full wet suits, snorkels, snacks and drinks.

Our Captain and guide were awesome. My mom had barely any snorkeling experience (just practiced a few times in the ocean the day before), and they made sure that she was comfortable in the water and knew how to use the gear/breathe properly. Thank you so much for that and putting her at ease. We saw a few mantas and it was a breathtaking experience. Small group and they make sure everyone is taken care of. Would do it again in a heartbeat and choose them out of all the other companies (they’re also on the green list!) I’ll probably sign up for their dolphin snorkel/tour once I’m back on the Big Island. Thank you for the great experience!

WHICH IS THE BEST TOUR COMPANY? THIS ONE. If you want to have an awesome time doing the night manta ray snorkel, then you use Hawaii oceanic! Simple as that. I asked the same question that you did, what is the best company to use for the night manta ray snorkel? Listen—I do an immense amount of research prior to our adventures around the world. I’ve done all the research for you and I would use this company 1000 times over and recommend it to everyone. Hawaii Oceanic is one of the smaller companies, therefore you’re going to be in the water with much less people, 10 versus 50, and have a much better opportunity to see the manta rays. ***The one important factor that seems to be missing from common knowledge is —Hawaii oceanic offers a late night manta ray snorkel, this starts at 7:30 PM. Most companies only do the sunset snorkel which starts around four or 5 PM, therefore at the manta ray snorkel spot there will be upwards of 10 or 20 boats in the water and way more people. The late night Manta snorkel around 8:30 PM you’ll be in the water with maybe one other group yes it’s pitch black out but that makes it all the better for the Manta Rays. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Period. There is no other place in the entire world where manta rays are common that they can be seen year-round at night in their natural habitat. My wife said it best, “ I would travel to the Island of Hawaii just for this experience if it were just for that.” It is literally unbelievable to see them add to raise up close coming within millimeters of your face as there chomping on the plankton in the water. It is simply magical. We have seen the swimming pigs and the nurse sharks in Exuma if snorkeled with giant sea turtles in Mexico, and Hawaii, and Thailand, and the Maldives, we have swim with sharks in the Maldives in Southeast Asia. This is above it all. The manta rays are one of the smartest creatures in the entire ocean and it is incredible to see them up close. Do not miss this while you are on the island of Hawaii. You can check out my website travelledbones_com for our island of Hawaii cinematic video or follow me on Instagram @travelledbones to see our adventures with the manta rays up close
