Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview

Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

This was a great experience for me and my family. I was afraid to go into the ocean at night with my 10 yr old daughter. I was also afraid that she wouldn't jump in. They educated us about the animals and the experience. By the time we got to the spot we were all so comfortable we jumped in without a second thought. The actual experience was breath taking. The entire time they were very nice and felt like long time friends. I highly recommend it.

Did the Manta night snorkel with Hawaii Oceanic with Dusty and Chad leading the trip. These guys were fantastic guides and crew and went the extra mile to get us some manta action after only seeing a quick drive by in one location. Moved into the bay and had some fantastic up close encounters. Amazing stuff! Chad and Dusty were super friendly, helpful, and obviously loved their island - it never gets old for them. Would 100% recommend. Thanks, Dusty and Chad!

Dusty and Chad (?) were amazing guides. On the way to the Manta bay (in front of the Sheraton), we saw spinner dolphins and even a humpback mum and her cub! The Manta snorkeling experience was memorable and we saw plenty of the (harmless) creatures swimming right up to us feeding, doing the "Manta roll" and coming within touching distance. I had a lot of respect as these animals are huge but it really wasn't all that hard. You hold on to am over-dimensional surfboard with handles and lights which illuminate the ocean below, attracting the mantas to feed off the plankton. Dusty gave a us an informative overview and briefing before we did the snorkel, pointing at things to pay attention to and teaching us all there is to know about mantas. The tour was very professionally organized, super safe and the boat ride was fun. Loved the passion of our guides and can only recommend going with Hawaii Oceanic! What a great experience.
